Right this is the first time im posting on here, so firstly i;d like to say hello. Now on to my point...

Right well i finally saw the new star trek film tonight, and i must say i really enjoyed it, i must say i like the cast.
Anyway i just wanted to say that this "alternate timelime" scares me.
I just really wanted to know am i only fan that wants to see a series to pick up shortly after voyager finished? I was annoyed at the announcement of Enterprise, but now they are on about 2 other "prequel based" films?
when are we gonna get back to some new stuff?

The studio's not going to want to produce anything - other than perhaps cheap animation - set in the so-called "prime timeline." The success is in the Abramsverse, so that's where the money will go.

The future of Trek is more CGI films with pretty actors.

Only the names will remain the same.

I see no indicators CBS is interested in Trek TV.

You're not the only one but there aren't enough of you around to fund a mega-summer-blockbuster flick.

Same, here mate, I'm very disconcerted. I loved the new film, but I really want ST TV to pick off Post Dominion War. If that's not possible, then at least anything in the original timeline would be great.

Cheers

Dave

I'd love to see that but it's not the world we live in. Trek needed a fresh start and that meant going back to what make Trek in the first place...Kirk and Spock.
looks like that was the right move.

Of course they're interested, as their jobs may well depend on what they decide to do next.

Trek is popular again, and CBS have the TV rights to the overall Trek property. And more importantly, their stockholders know this to be the case, and aren't going to smile on any network execs that let a profitable asset go unexploited.

The CBS suits know that if they sit on their hands, and let this resurgence of popularity pass by without getting a slice for their investors, then it's their heads that are gonna be on the block come the next stockholder's meeting.

OK - I want you to picture this:

The turbolift door opens on the Enterprise D, and out comes a double line of busty Klingon Rockettes that kick their way down the ramps on either side of the security station...

That was fun.

The point being, isn't enough audio visual information compiled in our brains at this point to allow you to see a myriad of 'films' just by picking up any book in your preferred series? You're pretty much guaranteed a good story, and your brainpan can create a budget comparable to anything Abrams can lay hands on.

Never. The scene with Romulus getting destroyed is the last you'll see of the 24th century.

Thank UPN.

Let's check in now with UPN and see what great programming they're offering!

The biggest obstacle is probably the tendency of networks to want to air only the shows they make - financial pressure in the imploding TV biz is forcing them in that direction - and Star Trek does not belong on CBS. Even if CBS thought that a show would be profitable, and that seems likely, it's a terrible fit for CBS' audience and current lineup.

I wonder if CBS might realize that the TV rights to Star Trek is an asset that is more valuable to sell than to keep? If they cannot profit from an asset, then it's worthless. The right move is to sell.

So why couldn't CBS actually make the show? They certainly have adequate production facilities. In fact, CBS' "Television City", combined with the CBS backlot, gives that network the most extensive television production facility of any American network. They're far better equipped to produce such a show than NBC, ABC, or Fox.

There's really absolutely no reason they couldn't produce the show almost entirely in house.
Star Trek does not belong on CBS.
Based upon what? Besides, regardless of your reasons, I'm sure that there are plenty of profit hungry CBS stockholders who would strenuously beg to differ.

the problem is cbs is still the most popular broadcast network.

they really dont have a reason to take on the risk so i dont see moonves getting a lot of pressure over this.

I might be in the minority here but I am happy there is not going be new post Voyager series or movies. The soulless and hamfisted writing and direction on Berman and Braggan sucked the life out Trek on TV and drove it into the ground. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed Voyager and Enterprise but it was not up to par. I would rather have writers who care and have talent continue the story in novels than hack writers pumping out script after script with no creativity for a paycheck.

Somehow, I doubt that the suits at CBS are adverse to having even more success, just as I doubt their stockholders would balk at even more profit.

And as to your second point: What risk? The property has already most assuredly proven itself, so the only real risk CBS would have is committing to a production budget that's too high to reasonably expect a return on, or too low to produce a quality product. In other words, the same risk as other new shows, but for the automatic advantage of an already established and currently popular brand name.
