HELP fellow James Bond fans

My boyfriend hasn't seen a single James Bond film and tomorrow night I am coming over and I have the collectors set with 21 films. All I don't have yet are QoS and NSNA as far as films. He is a big 24 fan & Alias, I want to show some Bond films to him, maybe 5.
I am wondering which 5 films would you suggest to expose a Bond virgin to?

Hmmm, 24 makes me think he's into the more fast paced action-orientated films, but Alias has some very dramatic, slow moving plots (by today's standards anyhow) from what I can remember of the show - never really a fan myself.

So I'd suggest starting him off with some of the more recent films and working backwards.

Casino Royale. Goldeneye. License to Kill. On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Then the all-time classic, Goldfinger.

So I'm not much of Moore fan, but you said five, and there's been six Bonds, so someone wouldn't make the cut, plus I think OHMSS is hugely underated.

Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, Casino Royale.

I tried to keep it to one for each Bond (minus Moore, usually agreed to be the weakest Bond with the weakest films.) While I personally prefer From Russia With Love to Goldfinger, the latter is more action oriented and iconic, and probably a better film to get someone hooked with. The Living Daylights and License to Kill are both strong outings, but TLD is probably the better one to go with as it's more "classic Bond."

Those films should provide an excellent sampling for each Bond and are easily some of the high points of the series. After that it should be far easier to move on to some of the other films.

My advice: show him Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. Then show him the rest of the series in chronological order. If someone's watching the films for the first time it would be a damn shame to do it any way other than watching them through in their correct order.

Nah, either The Spy Who Loved Me, or For Your Eyes Only would be my recommendation for a Moore Bond.

My suggestion would be to start off with the originals. Bond "fans" who have only seen the new ones/saw the new ones first and then the old ones just don't appreciate the origins of Bond. They are used to the new style and don't like the old style but CLASSIC BOND >>>>> NEW BOND.


Sean Connery IS Bond so the best ones to watch:

-Dr. No
-Goldfinger
-From Russia, With Love
-Diamonds are Forever


Those are my favourite ones ever. Thunderball is alright as well but not as good as the above mentioned. Just avoid the shitfest that is Never Say Never Again.

Your BF will love Honey Rider. I do, no homo.

FYI, Dr. No is the very first Bond movie.

I Know now of at least 3 I am taking over, (taking all 21 that I have of course)

*Goldfinger - Its a classic SC Bond film and its doesnt have SPCTRE as the main opposition whic is good if you aren't watching in a specific order which I am not planning on.

*Live & Let Die - Roger Moore's first and a good film, it has the weird creepy Vudoo and things of that nature which may connect with him on that "Fringe" & "Lost" level.

*License to Kill - I love Timothy Dalton (so shoot me with the golden gun) and I find this film to be fairly decent and it has 007 going semi Rogue.

Clearly there is just so many to choose from

I may consider TSWLM, GoldenEye, Casino Royale, & FRWL
everything else is also a consideration

If he likes 24, Casino Royale is a must - and bear in mind that, more so than any other Bond movie, this one is designed to draw in the newbies. It's intended for folks like your boyfriend.

I'd go for either The Living Daylights or The World Is Not Enough as well.

Casino Royale a good intro for someone from the Bourne/ 24 era

Goldeneye - although relatively recent, it's very much a classic Bond, putting all the ingredients in (then shaking, not stirring, hohoho) and provides an interesting contrast with CR in how to relaunch the series and introduce a new Bond. One going for a totally new approach, the other picking the best bits and pieces from a classic formula

The Living Daylights - I personally prefer Dalton's second and final Bond movie, Licence to Kill, but TLD is more of a Bond movie; LTK may seem like a generic 80s action movie. I think a Dalton film should follow the Craig and Brosnan ones - he's in some ways like a prototype cross between those two incarnations of 007.

Goldeneye - the definitive Bond movie. Nuff said.

Dr No. End with the beginning, as Quentin Tarantino might say. I know a lot of people might vote for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I think your b/f ought to see Connery's introduction, his first 'the names Bond ... James Bond' and Ursula Andress rising from the sea.

If you can fit in one more, then go for OHMSS, for the sake of completion, try and get in a Moore effort, either The Spy Who Loved Me (in some ways as important a template for later 007 as Goldfinger was) or For Your Eyes Only. Probably better to go for TSWLM - if he's already seen a Craig and a Dalton movie, may as well give him some escapism instead of grit.
