Did anyone here wanted Star Trek to fail?

I didn't get exactly what I wanted out of Star Trek. I wanted a complete, total, shameless, unapologetic reboot, with no nonsense about alternative universes and the like. I'm glad the film succeeded, because at least now Paramount can feel comfortable doing a future reboot.

The movie wasn't perfect, and I wasn't expecting a great SF storyline. It was still more fun than Star Trek has been in years. I hope for the next reboot Paramount sees fit to hire some real SF writers.

I agree with this assessment, pretty much. I enjoyed the movie overall, but there was nothing that made me feel like it was Star Trek and I really had no more of an emotional reaction to it than I would any other summer movie.

I also would have enjoyed it more if it had been an absolute reboot of the series (the way it should have been).

Now, did I want the movie to fail? No, but I could have cared less if it had succeeded. Did I want to like it? Yes, and I did to an extent--it just fell flat for me. I enjoyed Insurrection more, but I liked this movie better than Nemesis and The Final Frontier.

I think all fans of Star Trek wanted to see this film exceed their expectations, this is why we all went online trying to find out what we could before the movie hit theaters. Having high hopes and being a big fan of the original I was really hoping maybe they would bring back some of the magic of TOS. Yet the more I read on trekmovie.com and the more photos I saw, the more I began to worry about the direction JJ was going to take the franchise. I must say I know for a lot of people box office numbers equals success, however for myself, I was extremely disappointed with the film and I know the more money it makes the more likely a crappy sequel will be made in this style by JJ and Paramount in effect killing the TOS I love and giving me instead a purely inferior product.

Now, I wouldn't say that either; that is the equivalent of people saying that the new Star Wars editions ruined the movies for them. We still have hours and hours of the original series and its various spin-offs. Thanks to this new movie, Paramount has remastered the original series with brilliant effects and the new Blu-Ray discs have the option of watching the original effects as well.

Now that Star Trek is a financial success, we have a better chance of getting nice Blu-Ray versions for the various spin-offs as well.

At times I did. Mostly because there was a long period there where I thought it was going to be a garbage movie. I thought, if it failed, Paramount would take 10-15 years to try again, and then a real, fresh, clean reboot would be possible.

Glad I was wrong.

I wanted a film that respected canon and was intelligent.Instead we given MI4 disguised under the Star Trek name.

From other people reviews things are just made up ad-hoc.Total incoherence.
I even had to delete a post under threat of warning.because of hostility from Mr sharak.

Even my wife who is not a Trek fan and who has no idea who Abrams is beyond lost compared the movie to MI.

But could you elaborate about having to delete a post.
