If he wasn't overshadowed by the young guys and in a clearly purely supportive role, he would shine.

Bruce said in an interview that his choice would have been to play Kirk, but that this movie was unfortunately not his generation. What do you think of Bruce playing Kirk? (You are up early.)

He sure didn't get overshadowed in my mind, either time I saw the movie.

But then again...maybe this will explain a bit: I haven't exactly done a lot of dating. Reason being--I can't stand the immaturity I see in my own age group. nuKirk was good-looking--but not a suitable match due to immaturity. nuSpock...not bad looking, but not exactly my look. And I'd like a heart, too.

Maybe I see a character like Pike and it gives me some hope that eventually, some guys DO actually develop enough maturity to act civilized. Mostly. ;)

Pike seemed like he was smart, AND had a heart. AND was mature. Hence...being my top pick.

I first saw Bruce starring in a romantic-suspense TV movie some years ago. It's a potboiler, called "Treacherous Beauties" from 1994, with Emma Samms.

They had love scenes in it (he was the protagonist); Bruce in a tux; and many other yummy scenes -- including my personal most memorable one: in the stable with his shirt off, currying a horse. He had a water hose on the horse and was looking pretty wet and naked.
I saw this TV movie eons ago and the water hose scene stuck with me :D
Than I kept noticing him in more or less important roles and always thought "Hey, that's the guy from that TV movie!"

nuSpock...not bad looking, but not exactly my look. And I'd like a heart, too.
Spock does have a heart, it's just hidden under layers of logic. But when it picks out, oh my! ;)
But I see where you are coming from since I have the same difficulties in the dating game, even worse since I seem to fall for younger guys. So much for maturity.

Nah, I was late to bed. :alienblush:
I think he's a Picard, not a Kirk. Although I may not have seen enough of him younger.

Older men are great when they're not jaded or judge you from their past experiences with women. Or even then, they may still be more interesting than younger men. Or maybe you haven't met the right young men. ;)

You can be a mature woman in the company of younger men. Some of them are even somewhat mature. And don't deny yourself younger men. It's flattering, really, when they're into you - for the same reason we may prefer older men: experience... and again, maturity. It works both ways.

Very wise words my friend.

I said younger men, not little boys. :p
When I said "younger men", I meant men of 25 years old or so. They are ten years younger than myself.
Though I also get hit on by teenagers. It's starting to be a tad disturbing as most of them could biologicaly be my sons

Did I say I denied myself anything? ;)
That's how I know that young and mature men are difficult to come by

Trying desperately to get back on the topic...I've just seen another TOS episode, "The Cloud Minders". This one I remembered well, even after 20 years. How could you forget Spock hitting on a woman and mentionning Pon Farr to her!
He's already attractive when he's not trying so when he's trying, he's lethal

yes. Applause :D And especially for those of us "of a certain age" having some fun while we are still young enough to "pull" seems a wise idea.

And I did mean men in their twenties. The whole decade. Don't discriminate, girl!

Okay, that's too young. We want to avoid the lads who think a thirtysomething woman will be so thankful for the attention that she will make their education.:lol:

 Yes, the day you make the acquaintance of a real man for the first time, you're in for a good surprise. As in wow. (The bow-chicka comes later.)
But don't kid yourself: lots of men never grow up. So if your guy has to be immature, you might as well take a young one.

Oh my. I really need to watch TOS again.

I have been a big fan of Bruce ever since. It's available on DVD at Amazon.

And here's a picture of the original DVD cover with Bruce

I've been a Bruce Greenwood fan for 20 years, I absolutely love the man.

The first I ever really took notice of him was when he played Dr. Seth Griffin (sp?) on St. Elsewhere.

I think his two greatest film roles have been in Canadian director Atom Egoyan's two masterpieces: Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter. Greenwood will absolutely berak your heart in both of them.

He's constantly working in Hollywood, which is a good thing to pay the bills, but Greenwood very seldom appears in projects that make much use of his considerable range. He's an extraordinarily gifted and subtle actor given the opportunity. He certainly makes the most of his role in XI. You see immediately Pike's courgage, intelligence and leadership - and understand why Spock and his crews were so loyal to him.

It doesn't hurt that Greenwood's a handsome devil!

If you want Bruce beefcake, Treacherous Beauties is a must see, for the above mentioned scene in the stable alone. The movie itself has few redeeming qualities, but Bruce is very good in it (he can't seem to give give a bad performance, even in bad material.)

If you want to see what Bruce the Actor can do with first rate material, see one or both the Egoyan films. (Great films both, but neither is exactly cheery.)

Having already come out for Spock and Vulcans in general - Sarek/Lenard, Spock/Nimoy and Spock/Quinto - I feel I must point out that no one has really commented on the fact the Vulcans are touch telepaths. The brain is the most erotic organ we have, and the Vulcan bonding ritual bonds a couples minds...you would get instant feedback/sharing from your Vulcan partner during intimacy and the implications, even for the mindblind....are (ahem)...fascinating.

Lucky Uhura.
