I wonder if they would ever throw something as cool as this to the fans in the sequel?
That's exactly what I thought when I saw this ep :D

one more- those blue eyes....

Ah, finally one that works for me! Where he looks like a man and not a boy.
That one works for me too, for the same reason.
These also, maybe because he has something of Quinto in them
Okay, I saw these caps and kind of had to post them.

Personally, I thought Spock's reaction to seeing Kirk alive after he thought him dead in Amok Time, was amazing. The Vulcan was literally beside himself with emotion, and then back to the deadpan face immediately - that crack in the facade was like the Grand Canyon for a time. This was perhaps the very first time it was made clear to us how much Jim means to him. Powerful. Just as powerful as our first "I am, and always shall be, your friend" in my opinion.
That scene in Amok Time is wonderful. Spock has this big grin and is about to hug Kirk when he realises he's completely slipped seeing the way McCoy and Chapel look at him. Then he's like "Uh oh" and immediately recovers his blank face. But then McCoy litterally rubs it in
As much as love the interaction between Kirk and Spock, I wonder if I don't love the one between McCoy and Spock even more. There are wonderful moments between them. "The Tholian Web" and "The Empath" come to mind.

I actually just watched Amok Time and Journey to Babel last night (mostly for Spock background purposes). Yeah, yeah, I'm working on it with the rest. I just was in a particularly Spock-centric mood, so I watched those a bit out of order. Not that it particularly matters for '60s episodic reset television.

So far my first impressions are that the salt vampire looks like Barnum's Fiji mermaid and WTF?! at the dog in the furry costume with a horn on its head. Ah, primitive television. Oh, and it's LURCH!

(By the way, Kelley and Nimoy are starting to work for me on the attraction meter!)

Anyway...

As for the shirtless Kirk/Spock shot there and the new films... Millions of fangirls can only hope. ;) One thing that is very obvious in the new film is that they are trying to appeal more to a more balanced male AND female audience. Females have certainly been there all along, but the writing here did strike me as intentionally having elements built on gaining appeal to female viewers (a strong Uhura and the Spock/Uhura romance). And well, the huge amount of hot men is usually a pro for female viewers. With that, female viewers have more eye-candy than male viewers do!

Rand and Chapel probably should get introduced in the next film, IMO. And I hope the woven, cone-shaped beehive stays. LOL. That hairdo is totally... fascinating.

-----------

And yes, speaking of something that was mentioned with how Quinto and Kogan are both known for playing villains... I believe Nimoy also portrayed a few villains pre-Spock. It's kind of a tradition now to cast actors who generally play non-traditionally heroic characters in their previous work. The look of the character in general usually calls for that, though. Interesting, nonetheless.

-----------

And holy... Yum. Love those dark looks. Quinto has those amazing deep, dark eyes (plus those sybrows!). With a little gift to Pine fans, too!

I never did look at it from that angle. It's interesting that you should point out that Spock was more concerned with others witnessing his effusive display rather than the one it was directed at. Implies a truckload of intimacy and ease with one another! *Note to self, must not become blithering shipper* I suppose though, that Kirk didn't tease him as much as the merciless McCoy, who went straight for the most sensitive jugular at every opportunity. What a character McCoy was - that accent, the delivery, and his very own eyebrow lift, too! *Sigh* I'm very sad about the loss of DeForest Kelley. :(

An excuse to whip out some more episodes, I haven't seen many of them for so many years. It's going to be a treat to start again from the top and appreciate perhaps more nuances I did not notice the first time. :D

McCoy egging on Spock to find and prove that there's some kind of humanity in him is one of the best things about the character, IMO. Kelley's performance is really one of the biggest highlights of TOS.

I've found that the best scenes are usually the McCoy/Spock ones.

Page stretchers never looked so comely. :)
But for the rest of this page, could we divide our text in lines of reasonable length please?
Not everybody has a widescreen computer monitor. :D

Here, I made it a clickable smaller image that links you to the bigger one. Sorry. I'm spoiled with my widescreen computer. ;)

This was a good day to be a makeup artist:

We need to chip in and buy you one. :D
What a kind thought! But maybe I'd spend even more time on my computer. That would be bad for my eyes.

Thank you. :) I right-clicked the big one in the first place. :D

I think I just broke my right click button on my mouse because of you guys. :(

"Pine farr" LOL! (Had I not noticed that tag before?)

"Pine farr" LOL! (Had I not noticed that tag before?)

When you said we must make use of the tags, I thought it a very good suggestion. :D

How many docs across North America and Europe have had to treat folks for Pine farr, do ya'all think? A much more interesting condition than swine flu.

I fear I might have opened the way for Doctor Doctor jokes... this could be fun. :D

Patient:
Doctor Doctor, I think I have swine flu,
I've been so hot and feverish,
I'm short of breath,
I've got goose bumps all over,
I can't sleep...

Doctor:
[Under his breath] Ah, yes. Pine flu, bloody swine flu... *Grumble grumble* [/Under his breath]
Young lady, I'm going to prescribe you one Pine-tree seed supplement, 3 times a day. That should be satisfactory.

;) :D

It's also because Kirk has never really tried to pick on Spock every time he reacted remotely like a human would have. It sorta was an unspoken understanding between them.
You guess in the scene that Spock's more concerned about McCoy's reaction because they show the direction of his gaze with the cam, ie they show us McCoy and Chapel's completely astonished faces, not Kirk's.

And then there's McCoy's reaction:
Bones: There's just one thing, Mr Spock, you can't tell me when you saw Jim alive, that you weren't on the verge of giving an emotional scene that would've brought the house down.
Spock: Merely my logical relief that Starfleet had not lost a highly proficient captain.
Kirk: Yes, Mr Spock. I understand.
Spock: Thank you, Captain.
Bones: Of course, Mr Spock. Your reaction was quite logical.
Spock: Thank you, doctor.
Bones: In a pig's eye.

Note that Kirk knows Spock was on the verge of hugging him but he lets him off the hook.

As much as love the interaction between Kirk and Spock, I wonder if I don't love the one between McCoy and Spock even more. There are wonderful moments between them. "The Tholian Web" and "The Empath" come to mind.

I'm almost finished re-watching the whole series after 20 years of not doing so and believe me, I'm really enjoying it. I feared it would undermine my appreciation of the movie if I did but on the contrary, it only made me realise the wonderful work done on the characters in the movie.
Maybe I was hormonal or something but "The Empath" made me cry.

He may look cute but if I'm not mistaken, it's from the scene when he's drilling both Kirk and Scott to know how they beam aboard at warp speed. Note the fiery look

Thank you so much for this pic:

Quinto's look is telling, IMO :)
