Futurama: New Episode Order?

The Futurama movies had the problem of being made as both 4 tv episodes and a single movie in one. They should of did one or the other, having both formats just didn't work.

I did enjoy all of them except the second one, though they weren't as good as the TV show.

I have only seen the first three, and the second one is my favorite because of the hidden message, everyone is getting raped in the mouth.

The movies are garbage! True garbage!

The Futurama movies were extremely entertaining.

I agree, Futurama doesn't need to be funny to be good, it's highly inventive and beautifully made.

No they need to be funny and have a story that makes sense. The first movie is a mess, the second is OK, the third is half good half terrible. It's because they are movies and TV episodes.

However your statement explains why so many liked Pushing Daisies...

And funny.

All that stuff. Of the movies I loved 1&3, didn't like 2 much and think 4 was just ok. But just ok by Futurama standards is still excellent television. I tend to think of myself as reasonably discerning, and I'm certainly a huge Futurama fan, but I can't see what people have against these movies, especially Bender's Big Score, which was funny as well as being a huge continuity-fest for the Futurama fan.

(and before you say anything, yes, I know it rewrites continuity)

Absolutely... Though I sounded harsh in my post on it, I was reasonably entertained by the movies, as well... I don't think they really 'failed' with any of them... Some were certainly not their best work, but that's bound to happen, and I think their good points outweigh their bad...

And like Pixar movies, even the less than stellar ones are quite entertaining.

I can see why some people wouldn't care for Bender's Big Score... For one, some people complain (legitimately, I'll admit) that Bender's been overexposed already, as he tends to steal the spotlight anytime he's near it. Also, some people just don't like continuity-heavy productions, and would just like to get a new story instead of one that tries to tie up loose ends and fix past plot holes/mistakes. The scamming subplot was weak, stupid, and run too quickly into the ground, though, I'll admit... but it didn't bother me too much. Also, some people just hate time travel episodes... It can be gimmicky storytelling when done wrong, or, in some people's cases, at all.

Personally, I enjoyed it for all those reasons, though (except the scamming plot... it got old too fast for me).... I guess it's just a matter of YMMV.

Variety has more details:

Comedy Central will begin airing the new episodes in mid-2010. Voice actors Billy West (who played Philip Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela) and John DiMaggio (Bender) have all signed on to return.

.
As part of the deal, 20th still has an option to license the new episodes' original runs to a broadcast network (such as Fox). If the show does go to broadcast, Comedy Central's license fee will be reduced.

"It's a deal we're all happy with," said Comedy Central programming senior VP David Bernath. "It's a bigger win for us promotionally if we wind up going first... but if we wind up in second position, then the economics work out for us as well."

Comedy Central's "Futurama" rights run well into the next decade, which is why the net was so invested in the production of new episodes, Bernath said.

Really good news.

I still need to watch the 4th movie, I haven't been particularly crazy about the first three.

Good news, everybody!

I still have to see Bender's Game, but I'm glad the series will be returning to the 22 minute format.

26 episodes seems right. Like I said 13 episodes is not enough because it takes so long to be made.

Great news, at the very least we should get some more TALES OF INTEREST! And Nixon needs to still be around, his second term is almost up.

Hot shit this is awesome news! I loved the movies (well, I'm a bit iffy with the second one), but I admit they don't hold a candle to the series.

I can only hope the return doesn't suck like Family Guy's did...

The movies were hit and miss with me, mostly missing. I liked parts of them but I think only the last one I enjoyed thoroughly through. The previous three just seemed like episodes with a lot of filler in them.

I haven't gotten around to watching the movies yet but I am currently watching the 5th season after having watched the first 4 seasons over the last few months. All I can say is that I love this show and would love to see new episodes!

???

The movies are considered to be the 5th season...

Depends on if you're counting based on production seasons or broadcast seasons. In terms of how the show was broadcast:

Season 1: Spring 1999
Season 2: Fall 1999-Spring 2000
Season 3: Fall 2000-Spring 2001
Season 4: Fall 2001-Spring 2002
Season 5: Fall 2002-Summer 2003

Well the 4th season was so long because of football that even after the show was canceled it had a 5th season.

I just go by the DVD Volumes.
