Futurama: New Episode Order?

Soon, we may be close to getting more Futurama! Apparently Comedy Central wants to comission 13 episodes

Yeah, the movies sucked, but movies are a very different beast from a 22 minute TV show. Not to mention the writers' hands being tied by designing the movie so that it could be split up into four relatively independent parts. The Futurama movies had some seriously mood whiplash in them.

I always watch the movies with the commentary tracks on, anyway. Much entertainment, and I never get bored with them.

More Futurama sounds good to me - it's suited more to the short episode format anyway. Bring it on.

I loved Futurama...I really did. And part of me would love to see more. But those movies were, overall, bad and mostly unfunny. I don't hold out high hopes that the quality would improve. I would love to be proven wrong, if a new season commences.

I didn't think they were all bad... though, in an inversion of the Trek formula, I thought the odd movies much stronger than the even ones. Bender's Big Score and Bender's Game were, to me, quite amusing, with a nice number of callbacks and trivia... Beast With a Billion Backs and Into the Wild Green Yonder... ehhhh..... not so much... the comedy suffered in both, in the first due to a plot that seemed to get out of control, and the latter on soapboxing that made a large part of the movie kind of... boring, which is not what I usually feel watching Futurama. Then the last ten minutes of ITWGY apparently tried to cram five years of plot resolutions into ten minutes of screentime, then destroyed the whole premise of the show....

It might be interesting to see where they go now, since, in leaving 31st century Earth, possibly for good, it leaves behind a lot of the baggage that was beginning to wear thin on the show, particularly robot society-- which at times became a bit of a plot tumor, since it seems everything had to relate to it--and the Simpsons problem of too many characters the creators want to throw in all the time, even after their jokes went stale... but that's being a bit harsh... In all, I liked the movies, and hope the best with whatever comes next...

That'd be awesome!! I didn't mind the movies, some I liked more than others. The DVD extras show all the neat little things that go into every detail, license plates even.
I'd be thrilled to have even one more season. The show was good, it was just always preempted etc. that made it kinda hard to watch.

I was a bit disappointed in the movies myself, but I'm holding out hope that the lesser quality was due to Futurama simply being better suited to a half-hour series format instead of a two-hour movie that would later be split into four parts.

So if this news pans out, hopefully Futurama can return to its former glory. If I'm wrong, and the writers have simply lost their touch... ah well, we'll still have the original episodes.

Interesting. I am of the opposite opinion. I thought BBS was terrible and a complete let down, while I thought that BWBB was very well done. The last two I felt, while not outright bad, were very below average.

Around these parts, you'd think Futurama fans as a whole hated the movies. They were popular and they sold well, so of course new Futurama is a strong possibilty.

That said, these rumors have been popping up a lot lately. Hell, it's not even the only 'Futurama may return' news on page one of Futurama Point. I won't believe it until I hear it directly from Fox, CC, or David Cohen.

The movies are garbage! True garbage!

Now if they do get green lite, they really would need to order more than 13, it will be 18+ months befopre the episodes are ready to air. Fox should smarten up for once and just order more Futurama themselves. They already have ordered 35 episodes of the Family Guy spinoff before it even aired.

The Futurama movies had the problem of being made as both 4 tv episodes and a single movie in one. They should of did one or the other, having both formats just didn't work.

I did enjoy all of them except the second one, though they weren't as good as the TV show.

I wouldnt mind seeing a new show. But I think many shouldnt get to excited. I mentioned back when the movies where commisioned that many shouldnt get excited because people tend to be more critical, disappointed when they have been denied something for so long.(Ie.Family Guy, Star Wars etc.) Mostly due to high expectations.

I have a feeling that a new season will only disappoint many. But Im not opposed to it.

My problems with the Futurama movies was mostly to do with the fact that the plot for each one was very flimsy and was stretched out with bizarre side-plots that added nothing/very little to the actual main plot. For example, in Into the Wild Green Yonder, Bender dated Don Bot's wife. That had nothing to do with the whole Dark Ones plot (where most of the other sub-plots connected to it eventually). Even worse, it wasn't even a subplot that lasted throughout the whole movie. It was gone and forgotten within 20 minutes! It was pure filler.

Perhaps going back to a shorter time frame will be better.

I love Futurama and I really hope a continuation can be good. In other news, I gotta update my chronology.

I haven't gotten around to watching the movies yet but I am currently watching the 5th season after having watched the first 4 seasons over the last few months. All I can say is that I love this show and would love to see new episodes!
