Did anyone here wanted Star Trek to fail?

Even though my earliest impressions of the movie's new look and aesthetics worried me to no end...I always wanted the movie to be a huge hit so the TREK franchise could survive and flourish.

Alrightie!
I'll step up.
Yes. I was in fact hoping that this reboot Abomination would tank utterly.
There. You happy?
It is not that I'm rooting against "Star Trek"--which is the assumption of a lot of previous posters to this thread. I was rooting against any sort of recast or rebooted Trek, which to me is not and will not ever be, "Real" Trek.
I would honestly have preferred to just read new novels as they came out and waited, however many years it took, for someone to take a new stab at a fresh take on "Prime Trek". I'm still waiting for that, because I assure you that it will, eventually, take place.
(maybe not in my lifetime but...oh buggerall.)

Having been slapped down like a wee pesky bug by colossal box office numbers, I have no alternative other than grumbling and wincing and gritting my teeth while NuBies do the Happy Dance of Reboot Victory.
DAMN YOU ABRAMS!!
(*muttering* he tasks me! he tasks me and...blah blah yadda yadda, *spit*)

So. There you have it. I'm one of the Bad Guy Canonista Evil "This is What is Wrong with Trek" Fans. proud of it too.
Go ahead. Mock. Deride. Throw metaphorical salt on my raw, bleeding, raped childhood wounds. Woe to the vanquished. and all that.

I'll never understand how all you black on the left side and white on the right side upstarts took over our world. *curses--in bad Klingon*

the problem with your ASS-umption is that it's not just the "nuBies" doing the happy dance.

he's making a joking reference to that episode. in that we shall never agree. you know, just as Lokai and Bele never did.

In the BBS, all the epic fail posters are black on the left side and white on the right side.:shifty:

There are TOSers out there who said the same thing about TNG.

It's just a TV show.

Ah! Fooled you with my clever coinages and idiomatic usages, I did! Note that I said "NuBies", not "newbies" or "n00bs" or any other derogatory term for those who came to the Trek later than I did. NO! "NuBies" is simply a slightly derogatory term for those who embrace "NuTrek" utterly.
ah-HAH!
that really doesn't help much, does it?
it's...it's...actually sort of pathetic, isn't it?
sigh.
oh, just go on dancing then. Like Freakin' Fred Astare. If I see one kick off the wall flip, though, I'm going to puke.:(

Actually, I have a friend who HATED TNG. Loathed it. Muttered and cursed for over twenty years about how it wasn't "Trek" and nothing without Kirk and Spock etc would EVER be "Trek" as far as he was concerned. I disagreed. Rather liked all the Trek shows, actually. When I ran into him shortly after opening week for the Abomination, he was jumping up and down, jabbing a victorious finger and shouting "In your FACE, Picard-loving fool!!"
sigh.
I had to buy the beer. After twenty years or more of having to suffer through non-Trek "drivel", HIS Trek was back from the dead. Can't deny the guy his moment of vindication. Wouldn't be sporting.

still hate the J.J.Trek though. with all me strengthy thews and fibers of being. yup.

I'm not a fan of basketball, but I don't go to basketball forums and tell them how much they like sucks.

I just don't have much to do with basketball.

While I didn't want ST to fail, and from the box office #s it didn't, leaving the theatre I was not impressed. I know I'm in the minority, but I hope for (much) better in the future. We'll see.

Now see? This is perfectly reasonable, people.

"Meh, didn't like it. Hope the next one is better."

THAT should be the response to a FRIGGIN' MOVIE! Not this end-of-the-world crap.

Agreed.

I was always hoping Star Trek would succeeded. I like Lost and thought JJ would do a good job with the franchise. I have no problems with rebooting a franchise that's been around and has as much history as Star Trek. Sometimes it's just necessary.

Lots of people wanted it to fail...just go to the TOS forum, they're scurrying around there in the shadows somewhere.

Domestic: $222,712,175 66.5% + Foreign: $111,960,224 33.5% = Worldwide: $334,672,399

 great story!! invite him in here! :techman:

I was uneasy with the idea of recasting/revisiting the original cast and setting it in an alternate universe; watching it nearly 2 weeks after it came out, I already knew (without knowing much else and being cautiously optimistic) that it had been successful. As with Enterprise, I'd rather have no (new) Trek than bad Trek, but it's indeed just a movie, not terrible and is gaining fans rather than losing them. I'll always have the old series to enjoy.
