The new film should be set around 2260-2261. Perhaps keeping the age of the actors consistent with the progression of time in-universe.
This way, there is no makeup or other issues that would require fudging etc.

I wouldn't mind if they jumped forward to the V'Ger incident, give us a brief rundown on what happened in this timeline, and then move on to the Enterprise's SECOND five year mission.
I always chuckled at the end of TMP, with it being implied that Kirk was "stealing" the Enterprise and had NO intention of giving her back...at least not as soon as Starfleet might have liked.
It'd be nice to see what happened next, even if the past is a bit off.
The Federation may no longer consider it necessary to honor the Treaty of Algeron given that a Romulan almost wiped out a founding member of the Federation. The Klingons may sense weakness and ally themselves with the Romulans...and so on.
