Star Trek Corsets. Discuss.

Dammit, Jim - it's about looking good while doing good!

Who said you can't have feminist ideals and look & feel good at the same time?

Now if you'll all excuse me, I have to find the time to fit in a 4th pilates session a week.

200 bucks! That is outrageous! I want a Trek outfit so bad (Yes, I know, I don't have one!). I don't know if I would want a corset though, as it would only be appropriate on certain occasions. I'm thinking about having a Dax outfit made..that would be cool.

$US200? Not bad, considering how fiddly and time consuming putting stays and linings in bodices, and making lined shrugs can be. Trousers and shorts can be time consuming too, depending on what type of waist bands, closures, pockets, tailoring etc. THen you've got the fabric as well.

Better watch out or they'll end up like this lady...

:wah: The eyes! What is seen cannot be unseen :wah:

As to sexyfying (yes, I think I just made that up) up Starfleet uniforms, its not necessarily about showing flesh, its just showing it off correctly. How many pics of females in the same uniform as males in the same armed forces somehow manage to look stunning without a revealing cut?

Put those corsets and shrugs with long formal black skirts and you have far nicer female formal/evening/ uniform.

I hate that in later ST, female officers looked so bl**dy dowdy.

^^^
HAHAHAHA

I love them. They are when Anime and Star Trek have a baby and she grows up and goes and plays on the rocks.. and maybe a Mugato leaps down and there is lots of bodice heaving.

maybe the TOS scant with a snugger fit that would still allow respiration would be a more pracitcal outfit.

Yes,yes you are so right. They made Star Trek sterile with those sexless borig dull uniforms.Made them boring and dull. What is Man ?

Without a Wo Man .

Everywhere in the real world we have sex sex thrusting at us.Everywhere.

We have sexuality. We have sensuality thrusting at us.

Everywhere.Except in TNG,VGER,DS9,ENTERCLOSE.

Out of those lousy unisex pyjamas. Just becuase we want equal right/opportunities/respect in the workplace DOES NOT mean that we don't want to look like women.

Long live 10cm high heels (until my knees give out - then I'll get knee reconstruction and start over again).

every women should be allowed to be sexually alive and advance using her attributes.including sexual attributtes.

in tng they were reduced to androgenes. in voyager to responsible women..in ds9 to man soldiers...in enterprise to sleazy unappealing mastodons.

I must very strongly disagree. Starfleet women have never been sexier than when they got rid of Troi's stupid clothes, and every woman officer we saw was wearing a uniform. I fail to see how wearing something that a woman can be taken seriously in makes her any less sexy or any less attractive. Quite the opposite, I'd say. The handling of women in TOS was absolutely god-awful, TNG was better, and DS9 and Voyager were actually good about it (can't say much for Enterprise beyond the uniforms) if you ask me.

I can't agree I'm afraid. In Troi's case, the civvy outfits they had her in were SO AWFUL, that anything would have been an improvement. They were in space, in a climate-controlled environment for most of the time, they needed (almost Victorian era) highnecked, layered clothing?

ETA: For some reason the Skyhooks song "Women in Uniform" is now running through my head....

I think they need to make those "I Want you in Starfleet!" type posters with those ladies.

Though they are rather pale...

I'm with you all the way RyuRoots. I don't see that being "sexually alive" means you have to totter about in high heels and skin tight catsuits. I also feel that if women should be using their "sexual attributes" to get places in life, then maybe men should start doing the same...but I think we'd all find it frankly ridiculous if men turned up for work in a pair of speedos.
