I was watching Citizen Joe the other day (for the first time, BTW) and I loved it. It also reminded me that Stargate always made the best clip show episodes. Instead of the characters sitting around and saying "Remember that time when..." and cut to a scene from a previous episode as most shows have done, SG would have plot wrapped around it. Good ones. I think that Citizen Joe is my favorite. But what's yours?

I forget the title at the moment, but I really liked the episode where Thor shows up and puts Kinsey in his place. The scene between those two was priceless!
People tend to bash the clip shows, but I don't think they realize how crappy most clip shows are. SG-1's clip shows not only had a story to go with them, but it was usually a turning point story. It wasn't just a throw-away episode. The events in the episode were important.
"Politics" - Set up the season ending arc
"Disclosure" - Let the other nations of the world in on the Stargate project. This plot line later became more and more of a stronger story.
"Inauguration" - We meet the president and it sets up "Lost City" which in turn set up Atlantis and furthers the Kinsey storyline.
"Citizen Joe" - Okay, this didn't have any real big, show changing events - it was meant to be a fun romp, where they were able to look back on the past and joke about it (keeping in mind that most thought season 8 was going to be it).
"Politics" - Set up the season ending arc

I LOVE Citizen Joe because it's more than just a clip show; it's about this poor guy having his life taken over by SG1.
I like Disclosure because I felt like it had a really good story behind it.

Yeah, "Citizen Joe" was throwaway and the revelation that Jack was having visions was silly. But I thought it was a nice look back at some of the more prominent episodes of SG-1, especially since every episode that followed concentrated purely on wrapping up the major story lines.
Mine would have to be the stargate Atlantis's letters from pegasus.

I like Letters from Pegasus. It's not predominated by clips, has some action in it, and is carefully incorporated into Atlantis' great season one ending arc.
The worst is easily the season two finale of SG-1, Out of Mind. Hathor was about the stupidest villain the series ever had, and bringing her back in this episode only cemented her legacy as a weak villain.

Crap, I was so focused on SG1 that I completely spaced Atlantis! Letters from Pegasus is my favorite all-time clip show, and possibly my favorite Atlantis episode.
I completely forgot about that one! Yeah, that was clearly a forced clip show that really didn't add anything to the series. It was also a very weak season ender, at least compared to season 1.
Although, it's follow up, "Into the Fire" was pretty good, I thought.
You're the second or third poster who has told me Into the Fire is worth watching. I must admit, I've only seen it once, and don't remember much outside of some interaction between Tony Amendola and Don S. Davids. I tend to write it off because Hathor and Out of Mind are so forgettable (at best).

I can't remember many of the other clip shows apart from the other SGA one inquisition which i found to be really boring.

I thought the problem was that they had so many of them. Who needs a clip show before the first season is even over? Then the same show has ANOTHER clip show about a year later as a season finale for no real reason? Then later on they do a clip show every year three years in a row? What a waste, especially for a show that has a good deal of standalones. I usually skip those episodes or fast forward through the clips. Problem is that these are pretty bad episodes and the pacing is thrown off. No reason at all they needed to do 5 of them over the run when they could have been advancing any of the main plots.
Clip shows save money and doing one before a finale allowed them to spend more money on a finale. And they help new fans catch up on the show, any series can be overwhelming to get into after they've been on the air for a long time.
It pretty much is a balls-to-the-wall action episode. It is not very deep, but I like it because of the action, to be honest.
^Agreed. As far as mindless action episodes go, "Into the Fire" is one of the best. "You heard me! I said, 'Kree!'"
"Out of Mind" is a decent episode. Unfortunately, the clips are just padding. But I think the overall idea of O'Neill supposedly waking up in the distant future when the rest of his team is dead is a strong central concept.
"Politics" & "Disclosure" are great episodes for both catching up new viewers and providing pivotal plot points.
"Inauguration" is probably my least favorite clip show they've done. I think it's very poorly acted and doesn't really tell us anything important that isn't repeated in "Lost City."
"Citizen Joe" has some cute moments, particularly the Jonas Quinn name-drop and the revelation that O'Neill has been having visions of Joe for the last 7 years. But overall, it's one of those awkward lets-make-fun-of-our-own-fans episodes that I find really distasteful. (I put it in the same category as "Avenger 2.0," the Doctor Who episode "Love & Monsters," and pretty much any episode from the later seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that focuses on Andrew.)

There's also some great moments from Sheppard, Weir, Beckett, Zelenka, & Cavanaugh.
