"Omega Directive" was an interesting concept that wasn't strong enough to support an episode as it was. Lazy contrivances were used to make the characters feel as they felt, rather than deriving them from natural characteristics. It might have been more interesting had Seven been pursuing the Omega particle as an embodiment of perfection only to realize that she's become something of a religious zealot about it herself (not the Collective) and have some sort of realization.

The "Omega" mission in "Star Trek: Legacy" (the video game) was much more interesting.

"Unforgettable" was also an interesting idea, but just fell flat in so many ways. I honestly can't decide why. It's just... boring. It might have been more interesting if a different approach had been taken to the memory-loss race. Perhaps Chakotay becomes stranded on their planet and keeps forgetting where he is? :p

Even dear Virginia (who now does Botox Cosmetic commercials, btw) cannot save this episode, my boy. ;)

Yes, it might destroy your innocence. ;)

    She doesn't look bad, though.

She has a nice rack. I liked her in Candyman (also starring our beloved Tony Todd).

Unforgettable gets 1.5 stars out of four from me.

The episode started out intriguing enough. At first I thought the occupant asking for Chakotay was Kes--Kellin looked like her with the blonde hair and ears. Ultimately, it turned into a borefest. Chakotay bores me. Trek romances bore me and Chakotay/Kellin was one of the worst. The aliens were boring. The jeopardy plot was boring. The alien make up was boring.

I also thought it was a waste of Virginia Madsen in such a forgettable role.

How on earth did you make that mistake??

Anyway, the episode wasn't so bad but it wasn't so great either.

I don't remember that mission, but I remember that Omega played a big role in the story for Armada 1. I used to love that game, its opening cinematic was made from condensed awesome.

An episode where Chakotay wanders around a city and every 5 minutes he says "Where the fuck am I?!" Best. Episode. Ever! :guffaw:

What mistake? The alien that the agent woman was looking for was a dude.

Ah, yes, how could we not have mentioned that yet? Well done, sir. ;)

Oh absolutely. Condensed awesome infused with win. It's weird, I dusted that game off just this evening! My uber-mods were still on a backup drive. And still half-finished and crashes unexpectedly. Still, obliterating a Federation fleet with the Scimitar is surprisingly cathartic. But I digress...

    *bows*

    I thought so too. :D

Just kidding. However, seriously speaking, or as seriously as possible, Mr. P's idea wouldn't have been all that bad.

Unforgettable was boring and it didn't look nice through my J/C glasses. [IMG]Not nice at all. :p

On hindsight, I thought Season Five was Voyager's "sweet spot" and the most even in quality, even if it had no 10/10 scoring episode like "Living Witness". Here is my ratings run down:

    “Night” - 6/10
    “Drone” - 9/10
    “Extreme Risk” - 5/10
    “In the Flesh” - 7/10
    “Once Upon a Time” - 4/10
    “Timeless” - 9/10
    “Infinite Regress” - 7/10
    “Nothing Human” - 5/10
    “Thirty Days” - 6/10
    “Counterpoint” - 8/10
    “Latent Image” - 8/10
    “Bride of Chaotica!” - 7/10
    “Gravity” - 6/10
    “Bliss” - 7/10
    “Dark Frontier Pt. 1” - 9/10
    “Dark Frontier Pt. 2” - 8/10
    “The Disease” - 4/10
    “Course: Oblivion” - 6/5
    “The Fight” - 2/10
    “Think Tank” - 7/10
    “Juggernaut” - 6/10
“Someone to Watch Over Me” - 8/10
    “11:59” - 7/10
    “Relativity” - 8/10
    “Warhead” - 6/10
    “Equinox Pt. 1” - 8/10

What do you think of my episode ratings breakdown?

^^I pretty much agree with those ratings. But I still feel season four is VOY's best. Maybe it was because Seven was a fresh new character but I enjoyed more of those episodes than season five.

In season five I didn't like Extreme Risk, Once Upon a Time, Nothing Human, Gravity, The Fight/The Disease/Course Oblivion(it didn't help that these three aired back to back which really drained any enthusiasm for the show), Juggernaut. I also didn't care for Tuvok this season featuring mainly in a romance of the week episode. Torres had a bad case of bi-polar personality between Extreme Risk and Juggernaut. The Malon weren't as successful as a recurring threat as the Hirogen. The season simply wasn't as much fun as four.

In fact, I enjoyed season six, as up and down as it was, more than five.

Bloody hell, I really think this alien's magic rays or whatever is making me forget everything!

    @TedShatner

Season 5 certainly was Voyager's best but I'd go with...

    “Night” - 9/10
    “Drone” - 6/10
    “Extreme Risk” - 8/10
    “In the Flesh” - 3/10
    “Once Upon a Time” - 8/10
    “Timeless” - 7/10
    “Infinite Regress” - 7/10
    “Nothing Human” - 4/10
    “Thirty Days” - 6/10
    “Counterpoint” - 9/10
    “Latent Image” - 8/10
    “Bride of Chaotica!” - 7/10
    “Gravity” - 6/10
    “Bliss” - 7/10
    “Dark Frontier Pt. 1” - 8/10
    “Dark Frontier Pt. 2” - 7/10
    “The Disease” - 6/10
    “Course: Oblivion” - 6/10
    “The Fight” - 0/10
    “Think Tank” - 9/10
    “Juggernaut” - 6/10
“Someone to Watch Over Me” - 8/10
    “11:59” - 6/10
    “Relativity” - 8/10
    “Warhead” - 4/10
    “Equinox Pt. 1” - 8/10

Don't worry, it's natural for people to just assume that I'm an idiot and don't know what I'm talking about, that is generally the case after all.

    Living Witness (*****)

Some good fun is had with an alternate and "evil" version of the Voyager crew, but rather than just being a "fun" alternate reality story such as the various Mirror Universe episodes, Living Witness uses this fun beginning to tell a good story about the problem of revisionist history. This is probably my favourite Voyager episode so far.

There is the issue about Dr Shmully apparently having a back-up even though this doesn't fit with continuity, but was the episode good enough to justify this contrivance? I think so, and I'm going to give it my Official GodBen Seal of Approval. :techman:

    Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Living Witness is probably the most overrated VOY episode. I have never been able to view it as an excellent episode.

It is interesting with its take on the alternate crew--lesbian dominatrix Janeway, Borgified Seven, android doctor etc. It gives us as close to a mirror universe version of the crew as we will ever get.

However, the big revelation that it is all a documentary at an alien museum was a little underwhelming. From there we get an "afterschool special" take on revisionist history starring the Voyager crew. We all knew it wasn't true about the crew being violent tyrants so I really didn't want to sit through a replay of what actually occurred courtesy of the Doctor. This type of story is like third season's Remember--it has the right intentions and its heart in the right place but it is just a little too preachy and overly proud. The one moment that effectively tugged at the heartstrings was the final scene and how the episode chose to be closed out.

Still, it is a solid, if not great or excellent, episode. This is not "The Measure of a Man" or "The Best of Both Worlds" 4-star material. I give it 3 stars out of 4.

And it remained my personal favorite throughout all of Voyager's run. I couldn't agree more with your assessment. Living Witness is a great episode. For me, it's not only the best episode of Voyager, but one of the best episodes of the whole franchise.

it's a shame roxann couldn't participate in this episode. i would've liked to have seen a revisionist version of b'elanna. but ms. dawson was busy with more important matters at the time. :)

    Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

I don't know why, but unlike most "after-school specials" this story managed to elicit an emotional reaction from me. I honestly don't know why, and I don't even want to know why, but there was a moment near the end where a part of me felt like crying... but naturally I didn't because I'm too macho. :techman:

And when the episode ends on a picture of Shmully I felt proud of him, which is something I don't remember feeling about any of these characters before. It was a much better revisionist history story than Remember because it appealed to intellect rather than emotion, and for some reason that made me emotional.

    I'm confused. :vulcan:

A revisionist B'Elanna? A well-balanced individual who is very pleasant?

I just felt bad for the doctor never being able to see any of his friends ever again, it was pretty darned depressing.
