Tom Hanks plugging Star Trek again...

I checked out Hulu too, but they only have Monday's episode...

I like Hanks, but he isn't underhanded enough to play Harry Mudd. Cyrano Jones, maybe? He'd do a great take on the line, "16.7...years??"

Unfortunately, though, he's so much Tom Hanks that the only way I'd buy him in Star Trek is if he played a Klingon or some alien species that made him physically unrecognizable. I loved 'Apollo 13' but never for a moment forgot that was Tom Hanks.

I have that problem with Meryl Streep. As good as she is, she's always Meryl Streep.

She almost made me believe her Prairie Home Companion character, though. Meryl Streep is really a Minnesotan in spirit. She doesn't belong in New York.

you can get it on the nbc website i think. nbc's website has some sort of problem with linux, so i got it through a google video search for hanks conan in last week.

Although I can't see him as Harvey Mudd, I'd love to see Hanks in the next movie... I don't think he'd overshadow the other characters, who were very well drawn and acted.

Depends on the role, though...

I love hearing Tom Hanks talk about how much of a huge Star Trek fan he is!

One thing though, Tom... it's City on the Edge of FOREVER. ;)

Hanks was on a talk show YEARS ago, not sure which, where he talked about how, when he was doing Bosom Buddies, TWOK was filming on the same lot. Hanks and Scolari would sneak onto the Enterprise set, and pretend to be Kirk and Spock and stuff.

Dude is a serious Trek fan.

See that makes me happy, that's so cool. I'd do the same thing if I was an actress, I mean how could you not?

I some of these actors just feel they are above having fun..

I feel for him though, I made that exact same mistake once.

The fact that he can shout out that number of TOS episodes is bona fide i my book, yeah.

Oh, I forgive him, lol.

But so awesome to see Tom express is undying love for Trek. :techman:

We have a "Harvey Mudd" in this thread from one of our own, we should cut him a little slack there.:)

I love it when hosts say they've seen A&D and loved it, and then Hanks is just like "yeah whatever, let's talk about Star Trek."

If they go the Khan route, I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Starfleet captain.

The problem is that it might take you out of the film, you won't see a Starfleet Captain, you'll see Captain Hanks. Has he ever played a villain?

Has he ever played a villain?
There's a first for everything. He has a very good career going on but maybe a bit too stereotyped. Playing a villain may be a means to go to the next level as an actor and Trek may be a good medium for that.
