Star Trek episodes getting tons of new fans!

I went on "U Toob" yesterday to check out the Star Trek episodes that CBS has uploaded there, and was very happy to see TONS of user comments from people who said that they'd never seen Star Trek before, went to see the movie, and got hooked!

Check it out:

Looks like a lot of Nubies are starting from the first episode and working their way back, leaving lots of comments that basically boil down to, "This is the first time I've ever watched this, it rocks!!!". It's like the whole thing is starting all over again. :-)

Just thought I'd share!

I was hoping the new film would attract new fans to Trek. Looks like that's exactly what's happening. Good news.

Excellent! Are there any data available about how many newbies we have here at bbs as a result of this movie? And how it compares to the number of newbies Nemesis and the other movies attracted?

i have a friend who only had a passing knowledge of trek.
she had heard of the names.. kirk, spock and things like beam me up scotty but that was it.
she now wants to know more about the series and watch some of the episodes.

I visited FanFiction.net, and there are several story contributers there who said that they were not fans until they saw the new movie. Then they acted on their newborn fandom and wrote something. (Some of their stories are actually pretty insightful.) This bodes well ...

I've noticed on the LJ Trek communities, that most of the members are well, 20s and younger. And most of them are coming for the Quinto, Pine, Cho, Yelchin and Urban fineness.

The great thing is that they're going back and looking at the original actors who are playing these characters. There's no "Shatner? Who's that old guy supposed to be. I want more pics of Pine in his underwear. OMG! LOL!" These girls are actually watching TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT, DS9 and the older movies and liking the characters.

That does me good more than just seeing the box office returns. People who never watch Trek or were too young to see it are getting into it and liking it because of the movie.

And writergal, thanks for posting the link. I had no idea these were available. I've been looking for Friday's Child.

"Going back and looking at" all right. I think there seems to have been a quiet agreement made amongst some fans that the TOS actors were (and are) as worthy of shameless leering as the newbies. :vulcan: I think I heard a rumor about a clip of Nimoy in the nude... and there seems to be new appreciation for that scene in TVH where Spock takes a swim with the whales in his underwear. Although now that I remember that scene, WTF PLOT HOLE. How would a man raised on an arid world who spent most of the rest of his life living on starships get to be that good at swimming? Man, if I were a Vulcan and some aliens came along and said, "Hey, wanna learn how to swim?" I'd be all "No. Just No."

Also, this. I really just... have no idea.

This is outstanding anecdotal evidence of Trek's new found popularity.

Of course it makes the subject matter and tone of the next movie all the more interesting to speculate about.

Will it be dance like a butterfly, sting like a bee, or will the Supreme Court decide to sit down on some punches and go for a K.O.?

It is all ahead of us!
