New Sony PSP Revealed

Anyone think the $250 launch price is a misstep on Sony's part? Seems $50 too high.

I feel sorry for everyone in Europe. The launch price is 250 euros. You guys are getting screwed.

So you got some expensive game content on your unit, okay... so what if the unit dies or is stolen... can you re-download it for free? Can you make a backup?

On Steam the answer is "yes" to both. Now changing your account name, that's a different story.

Blizzard's Battle.net system allows this retroactively. You can register games you own to to your account (via their CD-Key) and download them from there.

Well on Steam you can change the name other people see to whatever you want as often as you want.

First thing I thought, isn't the PSP $170 bucks? Really unless you really want something sleek, the regular 3000 seems to be the way to go.

Yeah, but I'm still stuck with a retarded account name. It's like a speck of dust in my eye, irks me every time I login.

Yeah, I think 250 is waaaay too high. At first I thought this was an attempt to lure in new buyers, but at 250 I doubt anyone is going to bite

How much is a 16GB iPod Touch though? Probably the same I imagine?

The PSP Go isnt competing with an IPOD touch, it is competing with itself. When someone says they want a music device, I will bet money that the vast majority wont even consider the PSP Go; theyre going for the IPOD. When someone says they want a portable gaming device theyre going to decide between the DS, the PSP, and the PSP Go.

Asuming they decide to go with the sony product they are now left with the PSP and PSP go and will compare the pros and cons. they will see that the PSP and PSP Go have essentialy the same stats except PSP Go lack the disk drive but gains the 16GB memory. This comes at an 80 dollar mark up. Any smart consumer would just buy the standard PSP and use those 80 dollars and buy a 16 GB flash memory for about 40 bucks and use that extra 40 bucks on a game. You essentialy get more for your money when you dont buy the PSP Go

Maybe it's an American thing, but I can barely find 8GB memory that's reasonably priced, let alone 16GB.
I figure it can be sold more as a multimedia device anyway, especially if you can just buy movies and whatnot from the store.

I mean, I have no intention of getting one, but if I was looking for a multimedia device the PSP Go isn't that bad of an option.

$300, old generation is $230. However this is no iPod.

One would hope, but until I see figures I'm just as willing to assume they put in a smaller battery to suit the new form factor or some other retarded Sony bullshit.

Good point, with how much thinner and lighter it is that's a distinct possibility.

I bought an 8 GB MagicGate Memory Stick for my PSP and only paid $15 brand new.
