I was just rereading, "Star Trek Creator" by David Alexander. There's a letter from GR to concerned fans about the rumors that Spock was going to die in TWOK. He writes, "Even if Nimoy never plays Spock again, I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations."
There's no date on the letter but it must have been sometime in 1981. Interesting to see what GR had thought at that time about the future of Trek. How much of that was the dissatisfaction of producing TMP or some of the early struggles he had with Harve Bennett regarding his consulting role?
