Karen Gillan to play Matt Smith's Doctor's Assistant

Hmmm, gotta feeling that we'll be seeing Smith in costume within a week or two now. Soon, set reports will start surfacing at OG from people who've seen Smith and / or Smith and Gillan together, so it'll be unavoidable.

Me likey. :techman:

Best my mediocre Photoshop lighting skills could do.

found this on the Daily Mail website, small but its a start

Frodo Lives good effort, shame about how dark her hair is however, still I guess the brighter red would not fit the main photo.

Two more I found on OG

Second attempt.

With that much needed ginger touch. ;)

Or perhaps, this one.

Okay, not too sure about the scale either, and I really need to get a better handle on the lighting.

I like this one alot better, and im not going to criticise anyone for not being sure who it taller, and by how much (worth looking up however, ill do so when ive typed this) but you certianly want that red wavey hair, that I just LOVE.

Okay, we're aleady photoediting pics of them together. Isn't this oddly humorous. We're all a bunch of desperate nerds.;):shifty:

well when you think about it, this is really the fault of the BBC, they should have known we would want a picture of Matt & Karen together, and should have given us one today.

[DigitalSpy]to think they get all that money from the licence fee, and they cant get a simple thing like this right, I honestly dont know why I pay my licence fee, its such a TV tax, and for what, stuff I can watch in the iPlayer without actually needing to pay the Licence fee, and substandard promotional photos, the BBC needs to be cut down to size and only be allowed to show 2 hours of kids TV & 2 hours of news, everything is just a waste of my licence fee[/DigitalSpy]

Bullshit, wamdue. Karen Gillan deserves her moment, on her own, in the sun.

I've no doubt that in the next six weeks or so we'll have an official photo of the two of them together. And then we'll get set photos of the two of them together.

But for right now, this is her moment. Let her bask in it.

Re: Karen Gillan to play Matt Smith's Doctor's Assistant Karen Gil

As for this Karen actress, more power to her. If she's the actress from The Fires of Pompeii, then I'm thinking she'll be a lot of fun. I wonder what her character will be named?

Karen Gillan – Soothsayer

yep
I'm assuming she was the ginger-haired soothsayer we saw at the beginning of the episode?

Anyway, I approve. That's a nice composite shot with the TARDIS too. Actually, at first glance she reminded me of Nathan Fillion's daughter on "Castle".

Despite that, there are a couple of wags at Outpost Gallifrey trying to convince people that Karen will be playing Donna as a teenager, the Doctor having realized that interfering in her past is the only way for her to escape her fate from Journey's End... ;)

^ If RTD were gonna be running she show I might halfway suspect that would be true

I wouldn't. RTD was pretty clear about establishing a completely platonic relationship between the Doctor and Donna -- and, frankly, I doubt that Moffat would pair up two hot young actors with no intent of shipping them, especially since the Doctor hasn't had serious feelings for anyone since Rose. Why?

Because Moffat is actually far more love-obsessed than RTD is -- he tries to pair the Doctor up with a woman in every one of his scripts save "Blink" (and in that one, Sally Sparrow develops Spontaneously Falls In Love With The Geeky Guy To Fulfill The Writer's Fantasies About Real Women Syndrome [TM]) -- Rose in "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances," Reinette in "The Girl in the Fireplace," River Song in "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead --and both the companion and the Master in The Curse of Fatal Death. ;) RTD, meanwhile, has paired up the Doctor with Rose and... erm... Rose. Oh, and had him flirt with Jabe and Lynda-With-A-Y. That's about it.

Bottom line: Get ready for another Epic Doctor Romance, folks! :)

2.) Despite what some bitter older people might think, young people are not, as a rule, idiots.

Depends on how young you're talking about. As a Resident Assistant at my university, I can tell you unequivocally that absolutely no one under the age of 20 has any business making any decisions or being responsible for anything, ever. Before the middle of their sophomore years in college, there's really no difference between humans and wild monkeys.

I just think it's disgraceful that Moffat clearly has a Scottish Agenda. I don't care if he wants to be Scottish in private but I resent him forcing his lifestyle choice into his casting decisions for a show that is watched by a lot of impressionable young children.

If you're a parent would you really be happy if Doctor Who made your child want to be Scottish?

I wouldn't mind. Women love Scottish accents. ;) I just wish I could do one. Mine sucks!

Awesome.

I hope she's playing a modern day London girl.

I hope she's playing a modern day Edinburgh girl, myself. ;)

Wow...Karen is very cute.

I'm a little worried about the age thing, too. I graduate from college next Friday and my age is in between Gillian and Smith's ages. I hope Smith really projects that 'ancientness' aspect of the Doctor because the illusion of The Doctor is kind of broken for me if he's so close to my age. But, then again, Davieson is near the top of my favorite Doctor's, so I'll give everybody the benefit of the doubt.

But Karen Gillian has my approval. She doesn't hit me as knock-me down sexy like Rose but she seems like the kind of girl that needs lots of cuddling.

That's interesting. Rose never struck me as knock-me-down sexy -- though, of course, one of the best things about Doctor Who was that Rose didn't dress like a sex kitten, but instead like a normal girl.

I'm glad to see you've successfully diagnosed Moffat as socially deficient on the basis of one television script he wrote.

Excellent choice, lovely woman (girl?). :bolian:

Between Rose, Martha, Sally Sparrow, Jenny, and now Karen Gillan, I'm beginning to think us guys are somewhat spoiled. Then again, Chris Eccleston and David Tennant are pretty popular with the ladies, so I guy we all win.

Actually, I made that crack because Moffat has made similar jokes about himself on Outpost Gallifrey. I can't seem to find it when I search, but I distinctly remember one where he's telling a fan that he's One Of Us, a proper geek. "I don't like cars or sports or proper man things and I write stories about beautiful women who fall in love with geeky guys!"

Doctor Who: Something for everyone.

what would be interesting if she turns out to be the rani at season's end! you know how the master didn't have a memory of who he was until his watch was opened?
