From BBC News:

Little-known actress Karen Gillan has been unveiled as the next assistant in Doctor Who.
The 21-year-old will star alongside new Time Lord Matt Smith in the new series, to be broadcast next year.
Gillan has already appeared in the drama, having played a Soothsayer in The Fires Of Pompeii in the last run.
"I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. - I just can't wait to get started," she said.

Well, she sure is pretty :D

Have to see what her acting is like, but at least she'll do in the eye candy role.

I like this quote from the Moff
"A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too,"

Boy, what a disappointment! Sure, she's good looking but with a young (and even younger looking Doctor) I was hoping for an odd paring, an older companion or even a male one (remember those, BBC!!).
They'll look cute on T-Shirts and posters, seems that's all the Beeb are worried about these days. Cute couples are fine in other shows, Doctor Who should be quirkey, unusual and that starts with the Doctor and his companion.

...personally, I'll wait until she's at least said a line of dialogue before I express disappointment or elation, but maybe that's me.

I'm not questioning her acting ability or the character's likeability but rather the choice to pair the youngest Doctor with one of the youngest companions. There was an opportunity to do something different dramatically that we haven't seen yet in NuWho but they've taken the obvious route.

We don't know that.

She's a chick with a dick and in the xmas special she pegs the doctor over the console.
She could be an alien, she could be a slave girl, she could be anything, just assuming she's "the youngest companion to go with the youngest doctor" may turn out to be true, but right now it's just an assumption

Come on - she will be from modern day england and will fall in love with the doctor. The target audience don't care that it's the same old beats so why change a winning formula?

Possibly. Who knows. I'm certainly not going to complain about her, her backstory, him, or the show until I actually get a chance to see it and judge it for what happens.
