gold and red change

Command should be purple. If it was good enough for the Romans, it's good enough for Starfleet.

Although iirc what they called "purple" is supposed to be more like our blood red...:shifty:

Apparently one of the reasons that the specific dye was prized was that it's color actually improved with age. The money quote on this comes from Pliny the Elder in his Natural History

The Tyrian hue ... is considered of the best quality when it has exactly the colour of clotted blood, and is of a blackish hue to the sight, but of a shining appearance when held up to the light; hence it is that we find Homer speaking of "purple blood"

I actually liked that the gold and red divisions changed between TOS and TNG. It was another way of denoting the differences between the 23rd- and 24th-Centuries, IMO...

It was because Patrick Stewart looked better in red rather than gold. Another interesting thing is that Data was supposed to be in blue but because it looked bad with the gold makeup they switched it to gold

Damn, beat me to it. That does make a lot of sense though, I just pictured Picard in a gold uniform and wow, it just looked bad. Further proof - Geordi and Worf used to be red shirts and they just didn't look right.

The command shirts in TOS were actually an avocado green-gold that looked more green or more gold depending on lighting, film stocks, color TV transmission, and whether you were looking at the actual show or publicity stills.

First, this just makes more sense to me (could you image our armies, police, ... with 3 different uniforms).
The Navy has white summer and blue winter uniforms. I believe it’s a court-martial offense to wear the white uniform after Labor Day. :)

I didn't see a problem when Worf and Geordi swooped colours IMO Picard looks good in gold Data blue takes some getting use to but we never complained about Worf and Geordi do you think GR got complaints about it from fans .?

Do NOT resurrect old threads. If no one has posted in a thread for more than three months it is considered dead and should be left alone. If you have something new to say about a particular topic I would suggest starting a new thread.

They're coming to get you, Barbara! I am putting a bullet in the brain of this zombie thread in 3... 2... 1...
