Niners, you are needed in General Discussion

In the "favorite finale" thread. AGT is leading in the poll over WYLB currently almost 2 to 1.

All hands are needed on deck to beat back the tide of formula that is AGT...get over there and VOTE!:techman:

This Niner already did. All Good Things ... is the best Trek finale and I voted accordingly. :techman:

He speaks the truth. WYLB is second best... but then, it'd have to be, wouldn't it?

It's unfortunate that WYLB is a little weak, particularly after the fall of Cardassia.

WYLB just glorifies the 800 million dead Cardassians, AGT saves humanity.

WYLB hardly glorifies dead Cardassians. Quite the opposite, especially the excellent scene with Sisko, Ross, and Martok standing amongst the ruins of the Cardassian capital.

That said, this Niner also voted for "All Good Things...". I still believe that episode to be the greatest series finale of any television show.

I haven't seen AGT in so long. I need to give it another viewing.

That said, I've never been anything other than immensely pleased with DS9's finale.

WYLB failed to show any scenes of Worf, or anybody else, remembering Jadzia. Also, Worf remembers "himself" on the holodeck when it was actually a holo-character that he wasn't even present for.

I voted for WYLB. AGT was a terrible series finale, in line with the ENT finale which I can't remember the name of.

Can't vote, haven't seen the finale of DS9 yet. :( I doubt it'll top "All Good Things...", though. Such an awesome episode. Have watched it several times just in the past year and I think it still holds up amazingly well.

I don't hold that against the episode, because the powers-that-be wanted to use those images. It was Terry Farrell (or her agent), that demanded too much money for the rights.

No it doesn't. From Garak's solemn realization that his world is dead and gone to Sisko's and Ross's reaction to standing amid the debris and the dead, there is NOTHING in the episode to indicate that the Cardassians deaths are being glorified. I'm not sure where you got that idea.

Also, Worf remembers "himself" on the holodeck when it was actually a holo-character that he wasn't even present for.

That's something I've thought about myself. And there's also a scene where Jake 'remembers' events from "The Visitor" which he shouldn't be aware of.

However, I think the important thing to consider here is that, in the end, the whole montage is really for the viewers. The characters 'remembering' is just a vehicle to let us re-live some of the great moments. And in some cases, we know more than the characters. Which is why I think it's perfectly acceptable that we get these scenes.

I'm afraid I'm guilty too :)
AGT was voted accordingly by me too, as the best Star Trek finale ever... shortly followed by WYLB for sure, but the vote required one and one only choice.

Absolutely...one of the finest moments in all Star Trek!

NOTHING in the TNG pablum bottle ever came CLOSE to this, including AGT.

Of course everyone who prefers "All Good Things..." is free to do so, but I'll never understand it. "What You Leave Behind" was an epic of an ending, bringing a conclusion to a 2-year war and a 9-episode arc. AGT was a TNG episode. A damned good TNG episode, and without question among TNG's best if you ask me. But where DS9 got a Grand Finale, TNG got a Last Episode (if that makes any sense), so I have to give it to WYLB for being every bit as good as an episode on its own merits, being a better 'sendoff', and being a great ending to a HUGE storyline.

I have to admit all of the finales left me a bit cold. I think WYLB was the better but I think there was too much going on in it as the writers tried to tie everything up (something they didn't really have to worry about for AGT).

I recommend you begin a poll for the "best series premiere."
"The Emissary" is easily my favorite, and I would be surprised and disappointed if it didn't win.
I do, and did, give "All Good Things" a slight edge over "What You Leave Behind" as my favorite finale.

All Good Things is a light and frothy affair - a fun romp. What You Leave Behind is dark and sombre, and the better finale.
