Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global at $218 M

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

*Fist Pump*

Like I said in the other thread, truly excellent news.

[Borat]High Five![/Borat]

Off to San Francisco for the 1.30 IMAX extravaganza...!

Perhaps a merger with the esteemed MvRojo's more... educated thread is in order?

Celebrate!

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

Wouldn't that decrease the box office since more people might go on Monday?

What holiday, btw?

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

Angels & Demons had a monster international opening: $104 million. That's the biggest international opening since Indy 4. No word yet on how Star Trek did in foreign markets this weekend.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

sorta suprised..
but yeah the word of mouth on angels and demons is going to bad.
i know i am telling people to wait for the dvd.

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

I guess I was wrong about Trek being #1 on Sunday...it was #1 on Saturday.

A&D
Friday: $16.6
Saturday: $17.8 (+7.2%)
Sunday: $13.6 (-23.6%)
TOTAL: $48 million

Trek
Friday: $11.8
Saturday: $18.3 (+55.5%)
Sunday: $12.9 (-29.6%)
TOTAL: $43 million

Victoria Day.

A Monday holiday means a bigger Sunday since people don't have to work Monday, and a bigger Monday.

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

I think next week with a 4 way weekend due to Mem day that we will see $21 million minimum. Going through numbers in my head and my original target of 170-180 U.S is far off now am so happy to say. I think were looking at maximum $225 in the US Box Office though theres nothing wrong if we finish near or just under Batman Begins $205 total.

worst case 202 best case 225 IMO now.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

Gee, just think what it would be grossing if all the old Trek fans weren't boycotting it. ;)

The old Trek fans aren't boycotting the movie. They're seeing it two or three times so that they can correctly identify all the minutiae that irritate them.

Aw, come on now - there are plenty of old Trek fans who enjoyed the new one. There has to be a way to delineate them from the insignificant percentage of shrill, canon-obsessed, bitter individuals who lambaste the film beyond all reason.

The numbers are excellent though. Is Nate Silver a Trekker? I want some hard data on this!

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

Ive said it in other threads like this but...Star Trek also gets alot of money selling phasers pistols, model starships, uniform tops, Vulcan ears, and all that kind of stuff that alot of other movies dont. The sales from those should figure in to its overall profit...

If Trek performs like Iron Man did on Memorial Day weekend last year, which dropped 18% based on its 4-day take, Trek could make $34 million next weekend. Although IM was in its fourth weekend and only faced the $100 million opening of Indy 4. Trek has to face the possible $100 million opening of T4 and the $80 million opening of NATM2.

Add that to somewhere around $15 million or so mid-week, and Trek could hit $200 million by Memorial Day Monday.

NATM will not make 80 mil

Re: Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global Nears $200M

^ I think we will drop more because of T-4 and NaTm 2 but I've lowballed ST IMO so worst case 20 million+, it would not surprise me one bit because of the 4 day weekend we could break 30 million but I think we will get 10 mil+ this mon-thur so it might take a few mil off the weekend total.

Anything above 30 million next weekend and we have a wonderful chance of reaching 250.

I think it might over the 4-day weekend. There's a demand for family films right now, which is why Monsters vs. Aliens is doing amazingly well still (dropping only 8% this weekend despite losing 9% of its theatres).

Re: Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global Nears $200M

My guess is that there'll be $250-275 million on the table for the Top 12 over the long Memorial Day weekend. I don't think Star Trek will hold up as well as Iron Man, but it'll hopefully be able to muster a decent hold somewhere in the high 20s.

Next weekend will be rough on Trek. Then again, I for one expected A&D would be a hit. I suspect NATM2 will gross more than T4.

Damn, by merging the two threads, my first post with my awesome math got bumped to the second page. :( :p

Re: Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global Nears $200M

Apparently the threads got merged while I was reading one of them. I got very confused lol.

I expect between $25-30 Mil next weekend and between $15-18 Mil during this week.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

Great numbers, and I hope they hold. But I do kinda wish Trek had held onto the number 1 spot again. But oh well, still solid numbers.

Me too, but with the big blockbusters for the summer coming in every week, it's hard to stay in the Number One slot. I'm just happy at the box office take, which puts the Trek movie at over $150 million. I remember when Trek didn't come in first on its opening weekend and the big winner was one of those skin flicks.:vulcan:

Those were dark days, but they seem to be behind us now.:bolian:
