12.5 Million on Friday 5/15

It'll be tough for Trek because there's a lot of Sci-Fi/fantasy genre movies coming up. If Terminator is a flop I think ST could have staying power to last the summer.
I doubt Terminator will be a flop. If I wasn't going on vacation I would actually go see it. Even if it gets bad reviews it will probably still do big numbers like Wolverine did in its first weekend.

Terminat:borg:r will be a mega hit. You heard it here first folks.

I do wonder about Terminator. Why do the bad robots have to look so evil? Why not make all the terminators a bunch of C3PO clones?

Quite possibly. It'll open big, anyway.

"Transformers II" may be the big summer hit.

Unfortunately, I think you'll be right. Man, I hated the first movie.

Transformers II is coming out in late June but I still don't get why the first one was a hit. That was a waste of money for me.

I only saw STIV and STVI twice in the theater. No other movies till now.
I saw Star Wars about 20 times at the theater -- 30 years ago, LOL. And I was a relative kid then with no money. Never have done that again until now. Back then you had to see it at the theater, too.

My husband and I were talking about just that today -- how Star Wars was the first movie we'd ever experienced that kind of total immersion feeling in -- lost track of where you really were.

And that's the feeling I get from this one. I always used to say when I was going to see SW one more time that I was feeling like getting off-planet.

I feel really bad! I've only been able to really see it once (I paid for both myself and my friend, a diehard Trekkie, to see it) but everyone else I know has been so busy like myself and I don't want to see it alone... I definitely plan on seeing it again on Wednesday or Thursday, when I have time, and I hope to see it with some friends, especially those uninitiated with Trek. In that case I might have to wait until Friday... I don't think I can wait that long!

why can't you see it alone? I plan to. I'm going to skip out from work one afternoon next week and see it alone. I want to concentrate on just the movie. it'll be fun!

Yeah, seeing this movie reminds me a lot of going back to see "Star Wars" in 1977.

BTW, theater this evening was about 3/4 full, with a very participatory audience - laughter and applause. A good sign, one week in.

I thought it was awful. in fact, I was really upset when I heard last year that Orci and Kurtzman were penning nuTrek. I was aghast.

then again, I didn't much like Ironman, either.

It took me most of my life - and having no choice - to learn to enjoy going to the movies alone. :)

They should all look like R2D2 and Wall-E. That'd be a stitch.

And tactically sound. Who'd ever suspect the cute box of cuddles to be a death machine?

Seriously, you want to fake out some humans? Get a bunch of robots that look like this:

Also, speaking of general Terminator stupidity, why don't the robots have eyes on the back of their heads? Why don't they gas people incessantly? Robots don't need clean air.

Well don't count on me adding any more $ to the total while it's still at the Carmike here in Morgantown - my wheelchair gets me in to any movie for free there. :p

Some people have all the luck. Where is the justice I ask you?

With the Friday estimate, Star Trek is currently at $165,725,668 worldwide ($116.461 million domestic and $49,264,668 international). This weekend will take it over $200 million worldwide.

I used to be a film student. I often went to movies alone. I still do :)

Lot of 3/4 full references here--not bad.

Although "participatory" smacks of the Faithful more than newly initiated.

We'll see...
