12.5 Million on Friday 5/15

Dude, election's over. Cut it out.

Dude. Seriously. Knock it off.

Y'know, I've still never seen Ironman.

First thing I did when I got in tonight after seeing Trek XI again to was turn on my Roku box and start up Star Trek Season 1 in HD. I'm feelin' good. :D

I am not into seeing a movie multiple times in a short time. The only Trek movie I saw more than once in theater was TMP, and that was during a time when movies would stay in theaters more than a few weeks.

But with all the talk that this movie looks great in IMAX I may go see it in IMAX in the next few days.

Just as I thought. Nowhere near the 40-50 Million most people thought. Star Trek will sadly not even see 180 Million let alone 200.

I find your constant pessimistic attitude tiresome.

If you don't think this film is doing outstanding business, I'd like to know what film you think IS successful...?

This film has gone over and above the expected box office performance. AND -- most importantly -- it has PROVEN that there IS still an audience for Star Trek. Paramount needed to be reassured of that after Insurrection and Nemesis -- not to mention the last two horrid TV series.

Abrams has SAVED Star Trek with this film. Audiences are responding and people are STILL buying tickets.

I don't know how this film could be more successful.

We've only seen it in IMAX. Tomorrow will be #5.

I guess when IMAX is over, I will have to resign myself to the small screen.

They are crazy not to allocate a few IMAX screes to Trek if the figures are still high enough to warrant it. Night at the Museum? In IMAX?? Why?
Yeah, I did check how far out the calendar goes at their website with Trek on the IMAX, and it only goes out to May 20 -- which would be the end of the two-week period.

However, they do not show anything else on the schedule until June 4. So maybe I should check back.

It's already at $116,000,000 and that doesn't count this Saturday.
Worldwide it's at $165,000,000. I will be very surprised if it doesn't hit $200 million.

I'm seriously considering buying the 1st season of TOS on Blu-ray...

I want to also, but only after I buy a BluRay player. :D

My husband has a grudge match against blu ray; I'm going to have a tug o war on my hands.

We have a perfectly serviceable HD-DVD player sitting in our components chest that isn't getting any less obsolete.

I already warned him today that he might as well start setting his jaw for buying one six months from now when this DVD emerges. He was heard to grumble something about "they better have a cheap one out by then..."

Just say he's not gettin' any until he buys a Blu-ray player.

Tell him it's time to throw away the VCR and join the 21st century... :p

Seriously, aren't the wives usually the frugal, conservative ones?
Well, we have an HD-DVD player (and TOS Season 1 in HD-DVD), so that is not the problem. He's grumpy he bought the wrong format. "It's a matter 'o pride!"

Just say he's not gettin' any until he buys a Blu-ray player.
He's not a tough guy (and neither am I ); he'll come around.

I understand 12.5 is decent number and a decent 2nd week drop. However, I am saying it is disappointing compared to what most people here on this site were saying. Most people were projectiong 45-50 Million, which obviously will not happen.

Also, It can be compared to Iron Man and Wolverine all day, but if Trek is below 145 Mil after this weekend, It's going to be nearly impossible to make it to 200 Mil.

uh,,
a lot of people were projecting between 35 to 40 million.
please show all the link to 45 - 50 million and compare them to the ones predicing 35 - 40 mil.
the vast majority of films have tremendous drop offs in the second week.
not unusual for a 60 - 75 percen dropoff.
for treks to be in the 50 - 59 percent range is doing pretty good.

and i could see this film bringing in 20- - 25 mil for awhile.
the word of mouth out there about this film is that good.

Yeah, normally...

At least that's the case in our household...and that's why I'm just gonna get a Blu-Ray player and bring it home. No discussion whatsover...go to Fry's...buy it...hook it up...badda bing badda boom...done!

Then, "strangely" the next movie the wife watches will look "miraculously" BETTER all of a sudden...

:guffaw:

Gotta do it like that, cos if I don't she'll block me.

What's that saying...? "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?"

Besides, the price of a Blu-Ray player is coming down anyway...

I know the movie is a rousing success and will end with solid numbers....But I REALLY hope it beats out Angels and Demons for the top spot!
