12.5 Million on Friday 5/15

I think we'll see more of a drop once Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum 2 opens. Both take up the action and family oriented crowds that have ventured towards Star Trek so far.

Maybe, but the former is exceedingly dark, the latter is exceedingly fluff, so there still will be that niche to fill over that long weekend (I hope).

Be interesting to see how this weekend plays out. My son's at the theater with friends again. Maybe they will contribute to the box. I know I will tomorrow at IMAX... :)

"Prince Caspian" was not "Terminator Salvation." Everything will take a big hit from the latter.

I have no read on "Night At The Museum 2." There's not a laugh in the trailer, though.

Well "Night at the Museum 2" takes place at the Smithsonian right? So does the Enterprise in the gift shop come to life in the film as a nod and a cameo? That would keep the Trek buzz going :)

Just to disgress...What's amazing, is that it got a 95% critics review at rottentomatoes. Not many Sci-Fi movies ever get that high score.

I am happy the movie is doing so much money. Maybe it will justify a TV franchise or mini-series one day...

Hard to say, since I can't see any resemblance between any of the actual Smithsonian museums and the one in the movie (other than an establishing exterior that looks somewhat CG'd).

We just got back from seeing it (me and three uninitiated), and they loved it. The theater was 3/4 full, and there was clapping at the end, so it still looks good on this end! As for myself, the movie has only become better with this viewing. I saw more nuances and nice little surprises that I missed first time around.

I added another $21

Well don't count on me adding any more $ to the total while it's still at the Carmike here in Morgantown - my wheelchair gets me in to any movie for free there. :p

However, if it goes to our local independent theater after it's done at the Carmike, I may contribute 4 bucks. Or 8.

(I contributed $8.50 to the opening Thursday total at the Harkins in Sedona, AZ, while on vacation there. No Carmikes in that neck of the woods.)

I've seen them all at least twice (except for TMP which I never got to see on the big screen and NEM and Insurrection which I saw once each). but this is the only one I've seen four times and plan to see again.

TWOK and TMP (especially, the first half) I often watch on DVD etc.

We've spent $100 bucks so far, and it isn't over yet.

Damn $81 here!
We're going to the IMAX again tomorrow; and then while the husband is at work next week, I think I'm going to try to talk the neighbor lady into going with me during the day.

I don't buy other Trek gadgets, except DVD's, books and the occasional Hallmark ornament. I've had more pure pleasure out of this movie that it is worth some cash.

I plan on seeing it a third time later this week. I never go to the movies and see the same one twice. Ever. This movie changed that.

I've seen every Trek movie in the theater at least once - though amazingly, I didn't see TWOK in the theater until last year, when my local independent theater (linked in my above post) screened it for a week.

I think the one I saw the most times in the theater was Generations. Amazingly, I made it to see First Contact only once in the theater - it was out of theaters around here rather quickly. The Morgantown area has a lot more screens now than it did back in '96.

It'll be tough for Trek because there's a lot of Sci-Fi/fantasy genre movies coming up. If Terminator is a flop I think ST could have staying power to last the summer.

I feel really bad! I've only been able to really see it once (I paid for both myself and my friend, a diehard Trekkie, to see it) but everyone else I know has been so busy like myself and I don't want to see it alone... I definitely plan on seeing it again on Wednesday or Thursday, when I have time, and I hope to see it with some friends, especially those uninitiated with Trek. In that case I might have to wait until Friday... I don't think I can wait that long!
