Should Riverside, Iowa take down/change the Sign?

It's still possible "Kirk Prime" was born in Iowa as the arrival of Nero didn't happen in the original timeline and it's possible the stress of the situation pushed Winona Kirk into premature labor.

Changing the sign, if we're going to be pedantic, to "home of JTK" would work.

And yes, "from" is not the same as "born in."

Seeing as it's a fictional sign about a fictional person, I say leave it alone and let them continue to make a few bucks from people who drive through to take a picture and maybe eat and buy a postcard.

Still the future birthplace of Kirk Prime!

The movie seemed to indicate that he would have been born on the Kelvin regardless of whether Nero’s ship came through the vortex hence Kirk Prime would have been born on the Kelvin as well.

Was it ever established on screen that Kirk was “born” in Riverside, Iowa or it is considered “fanon”?

how did the film establish that? the attack could have put Winona into labor. if it hadn't happened (as in the original timeline) she might have reached earth and given birth. Kirk may have been a bit of a preemie in the alternate timeline.

Yeah Star Trek IV made it canon.
No it does not. He says he is from Iowa. Being from a place doesn't mean you were born there.

Kirk Prime was born on the Kelvin, the Narada did not change this.

Possible but not necessary. I still say the universe was already altered because Nero's ship would change future time travel events such as "First Contact" and the Temporal Cold War that helped imact the Prime Trekverse before the date in which the ship arrives. Who knows how the past before "TOS" was changed without those events.

No....

People need to stop this wanting to erase previous Trek over this one movie.

It's obvious this movie got it wrong.

I thought of that but Big Eyes and the other medical person are paying no attention to the baby after it's born, they are looking at equipment. There is no visible equipment attached to the baby either.

Of course he could only have been a week early. She could have tripped running to her duty station and had her waters break and ended up in labor.

Of course there is not much reason to rush back to the hospital on earth. I am sure a starship had all the medical technology and personnel to cope with any problems.

Maybe in the Alpha Timeline, the Kelvin was just finishing up its current mission near the Klingon border and heading back to Earth within the next few days. The Kelvin returns to Earth, and Jim Kirk is born a couple of weeks later. But in the Beta Timeline, the Narada shows up a few days before the Kelvin is scheduled to return home, and the stress of the battle forces Winona Kirk into a slightly premature labor.

I dunno where the Alpha/Beta stuff came from, it sounds better than "old timeline" and "new timeline."

I saw Trekkies, Kirk being born there is the only thing going on there. I imagine the whole town committed suicide over this.

Although they should just go with the Hometown of Kirk and build some sort of mock shipyard. I'd go see it for that alone.

oh yes that would be cool. And the mock Enterprise could be a star trek museum: they could make a mint! Where was Amanda Grayson born? Perhaps i can e-mail JJ and contrive it to be my hometown.

Yes

we need to put together a van of crack trekbbs members to steal the sign and replace it with "future hometown"

I can't believe it!

I made this exact suggestion on another message board!

The possibility that there is someone else in the world with a twisted imagination similar to my own is deeply disturbing.

Now I'm scared . . . :(

Her ancestors are from the tiny frontier town of Seattle, Washington (population 152!), in which the TV show "Here Come the Brides" was set, according to the ST novel, "Ishmael".
