Should Riverside, Iowa take down/change the Sign?

Demonland

Since it is now established that Kirk was born in deep space should the residents of Riverside, Iowa be forced to take down or change the Sign that says “The Future Birthplace of James T. Kirk.”?

They could change it to “The Future Hometown of James T. Kirk”

No, he is still born there in the original timeline.

How could he be? The timeline diverges just as the movie opens, because that's exactly when Nero arrives in the past. And by all indications, Kirk's birth is already about to happen. I suppose it's possible that all the excitement of the battle hastens the labor, but the movie doesn't really give that indication.

Possibly change it to "the future home towm of..." rather than "future birthplace of..."

Starfleet regs state that any child born aboard a Starfleet vessel is logged with a birth certificate that provides the official place of residence of the mother as the location they were born. Makes things easier for tax purposes.

;)

Still the future birthplace of Kirk Prime!

The movie seemed to indicate that he would have been born on the Kelvin regardless of whether Nero’s ship came through the vortex hence Kirk Prime would have been born on the Kelvin as well.

Was it ever established on screen that Kirk was “born” in Riverside, Iowa or it is considered “fanon”?

You really shouldn't smoke.

Yeah Star Trek IV made it canon.

It was never established onscreen that Kirk was born in Iowa at all. In ST 4 he says "I'm from Iowa," which is not the same thing. There was supposedly an unreadable display somewhere in the background in one of the Star Trek Enterprise "Mirror" episodes indicating that he was born in Iowa, but since no one could read it, it's not really "onscreen"...

It was never established onscreen. In STIV, Kirk says twice that he's "from Iowa" but that only means he grew up there.

My wife was born in Las Vegas, but if you ask where she's from she'll say California, where she grew up, not Nevada, where her parents happened to be driving through at the time.

No it does not. He says he is from Iowa. Being from a place doesn't mean you were born there.

Kirk Prime was born on the Kelvin, the Narada did not change this.

The Narada could very well change it. The Kelvin was investigating the anamoly - it didn't run into it. The Kelvin could very well have been on its way to Earth when it diverted course. Instead of being at Earth on March 22, it was in deep space checking out this crazy hole thing.

I also was thinking that Kirk never says that he was born in Iowa. Only that he grew up there. They could change the sign to "Home of James T. Kirk" or "Childhood home of James T. Kirk." Or perhaps change the name of the town to "Medical Shuttle 37."

Medical Shuttle 37. Birthplace of James T. Kirk.
