Apostrophe's

Don't they annoy you when they're used incorrectly?

So I'm leaning towards just using them to indicate a missing letter and not faffing about with the possessive bit.

We can fathom out if it's the boys bike, the boys bikes, and frankly I don't give a damn about the boys bikes wheels or where the apostrophe is.

It's more annoying and confusing when used badly. So 'if in doubt ~ leave it out' that's my new motto.

Thoughts from the punctuation pedants please :)

I find it interesting that most of the posters that don't know how to use the apostrophe come from English speaking countries!

And, yes, I really find it annoying!

It does not bother JKTim one bit. In fact, he loves it.

For his sake, I encourage people to misuse them as often as possible.

Don't get me started on the rights and wrongs of apostrophe use.... :sigh:

Me, I lean towards the use of apostrophes in order to make the most sense in the most succinct way possible.

I have a t-shirt that says "Bad grammar makes me [sic]!"
:guffaw:

the boy's bike
the boys' bikes
the boys' bikes' wheels

Not that difficult. Also not less annoying to leave them out. One way or another, you're showing your lack of punctuality.

But I'm n'er late

'Also not less annoying to leave them out.' Do you mean ~ 'not as annoying as leaving them out'

It bugs me to no end when people use them to make a word plural.

I openly admit to not being a perfect, error free, typist.

But Jesus H. Christ where did people learn to pluralize a word by using a fucking apostrophe-s?!?!?

And I've seen it in real life! I've seen it eMails from my boss! I've seen it on store signage!

Have people fallen retarded?
