Preacher: The TV Show

Unlike the Y: the Last Man TV idea I was talking a while ago, each episode would be 15 minutes up to half a hour long. Episodes of In Treatment and Entourage have the same length of time.
The show would be five seasons long and would be spark a lot of controversy with its subject matter and adult content.

A Preacher TV series would need one-hour episodes in my opinion. I don't think the style of the series is suited to adaptation into episodes as short as 15-30 minutes.

I believe this was in planning at HBO for a heartbeat and then dropped.

Apparently it's back to the movie stages once again.

Yeah, that's the word, I hear... and unfortunate, too. What I was hearing before, about an hourlong for HBO, wherein Garth Ennis himself was telling the writers they didn't need to adhere so slavishly to what he'd written (their response: "Yeah we do.")... that sounded like it had a lot of potential.

I doubt that a feature-length film of even one story arc at a time would really be able to do the series justice. I have this feeling that a feature film would focus on the shock factor Ennis brought to the comic without focusing enough on the characterization or the themes of friendship, love, and redemption that really made Preacher great.

Given that Sam Mendes is attached as director, I have more hope than that.
