Re: Will Trek XII be like 'The Dark Knight' or... 'Quantum Of Solace'.

BETTER than Quantum of Solace, because of their high opening weekend numbers and great reviews. That to me, is a recipe for success and the buzz around other movies for this summer will help sustain our high attendance and attract those that have not seen STXI yet.

...but not as great as The Dark Knight. $500 M (domestic) is out of the question. $400 M is a slim chance, but $300 M can be a possibility.

Really, we have nothing to worry about.

Bruce Campbell as Koloth the Klingon

He was originally played by William Campbell (who also played Trelane). There's quite a resemblance.

I'm not a fan of Bruce Campbell and I certainly would not want to see any campy and/or jovial Klingons.

This is assuming TPTB will continue to say true to the original series with the characterization of Kor, Koloth and Kang.

Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

With this new alternate reality, and a sequel in the works, I would be thrilled to see the "rebooted" Borg in the next film. As said before, it's an alternate reality, so first contact with them could already be made in Kirk's heyday.

I know the Borg got used alot in the main Trek, but that is exactly why I'd like to see Abrams include them in the next film. The skies the limit with where they could go. With newer effects and better budget, they could be redesigned and made to look somewhat creepy again. The intimidation factor could finally enter the equation after Voyager near well eliminated it with changes to their behavior, weaponry, etc. since they are alternate reality Borg. They, IMO, if done right, would be the best villian race possible for a sequel. And they'd immediately reattract the mainstream/casual audience for a second go around, as most liked First Contact also.

Thoughts?

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

I like Borg, but maybe not in my Kirk trek.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

The Borg gotta come back sometime. And reintroducing them is not nearly as tough as reintroducing Khan.

People forget that the Borg are actually good villains, and the The Best of Both Worlds is a classic. They may have been overexposed on Voyager, but 1 Borg is worth 100 Shinzons.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

Janeway exterminated the Borg, let's leave it at that. I don't see it working.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

Ok, ok. I'll spring for Borg. I can hardly believe I sprung for Vulcan blowing up yet; give me another minute.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

No. But a intelligence so powerful and without reason it would have more in common with a force of nature? Perhaps. But then the good guys can't win -- shouldn't win. I don't know if that's a story I'd want to see; sounds bleak.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

No. No Borg, no Khan, no Doomsday Machine, no Q...what is the bloody point of wiping the slate clean if we're just going to re-hash things that have already been done?

In fact, I'd really like it if we didn't see Earth in the next movie either. If things like the above really need to be revisited in this new timeline, can they not wait (or be fodder for novels set in the new timeline)? I want to see something new. That's why I loved the idea of a new timeline and shedding canon.

Besides, Kirk'll just pull a "Landru" on the Borg and the movie will be over in six minutes.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

It seems to me those saying no are doing so because their mind is seeing repeats of Voyager. But this is a new timeline. They could be made insectoids if Abrams really wanted to. It is a clean slate so to speak. They could be "Borg in name only" so to speak. No one had problems with the Klingons and Romulans being "rehashed". We already know the Cardassians and Andorians exist in this timeline too. And remember, alternate timeline, not universe.

Then why make them Borg at all? Just make them something new.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

I think the Borg are an enemy best left for the 24th century to deal with. Unless of course they do something with the Doomsday Machine like one Trek Author did and have it being a runaway weapon to fight the Borg, but it is best to just leave the Borg alone.

Re: Anyone Else Wanting the "Rebooted" Borg?

It will only be a matter of time before Abrams brings in the Borg because he knows they are the most recognizable and most beloved Trek villians. That'll draw the crowds.

Hey they could use one of Hurley's old ideas and have them destroy the Romulan Empire.

Campbell CAN play it straight and even go dark. Check out the season 6 X-Files episode "Terms of Endearment." Also, he was Sam Raimi's first choice for Darkman, before TPTB decided to cast Liam Neeson (due to his performance in The Dead Pool), so I would imagine that he would have the acting chops to play those kind of roles.
