Things you didn't like

I'm beginning to suspect that Pike could have buggered Chekov on the captain's chair during the ship's launch sequence and the most common complaint about the movie would be "Kirk was promoted too fast."

Well, I am in the service and know how these things work in the real world. And if they are going to break with the real world, there needs to be some compelling reason. I didn't see one, other than the "kewl" factor.

In my real world, space ships move really fucking slowly.

Becoming an officer in Starfleet is more like getting a job at a corporation than our current military hierarchy.

Becoming an officer in Starfleet is like getting a job at Office Depot. During the Christmas rush someone yells "does anyone know anything about memory sticks?" and suddenly you're managing the digital camera aisle.

So you're saying that the real world service is still okay with the buggery thing? Because I thought the Royal Navy, at least, discouraged it now.

Ah, no. They frown on that, too. And so would Paramount, I am sure, as would the ratings board.

:D

Well, we haven't invented Warp Drive. Or impulse drive.

You know...compelling reason, as I said.

:D

Nokia Product Placement: Complete anethatis of Federation Society

Kirk being a 16 year old kid: well he looked younger than me and i'm 20

Kirk being Promoted straight to captain: RIDICULOUS

The Kelvin standing toe to toe with a 24th centuary behemoth for more than 5 seconds: totally unbelivable, the Ent-E would of nuked it in the first salvo.

Kim From Home and Away being in it: LMAO that guy SUCKS!

The English guy being an idiot who got himself killed straight away: typical Holywood, something Star trek has previously stayed away from

Alternate Dimension: Yes I know they COULD bring the old verse back, but come on it's not going to happen.

Stuff like this has precedent though: even after the Victorian-era British army abolished the practice of buying officer commissions, there were still some guys in their 20's who achieved the rank of general on merit.

But still, I thought Starfleet would at least make Kirk wait a few years.

Yep. TOS never killed random people who weren't the main cast.

Alternate Dimension: Yes I know they COULD bring the old verse back, but come on it's not going to happen.

So what? Watch the DVDs and enjoy them for what they are.

This is a new universe, deal with it.

Suspended for violation of Academy honor code

Kirk Prime did the same thing and was given a comendation or Original Thinking. He went on to be Starfleet's most famous Captain.

When you put it that way, I think we can virtually guarantee an appearance by Samuel T. Cogley in the sequel. :techman:
