I liked this McCoy

Yes. I like this McCoy! He's exciting!!

(I've got a feeling that paraphrasing this line is going to be overused - probably by me, if by no one else  - for quite some time to come....)

Nope, I've been driving people crazy with that one ever since I saw the trailer.

I love McCoy. I'm happy Urban did such a great job. They all did, imo. Spot on.

I've become a fan of Urban, too, now. The only other movie I'd seen him in was LOTR, which wasn't too impressive.

Urban outdoes DeForest, which is all good.

Now this right here is crazy tawk and it needs to be stopped.....Urban outdoes whom??? So this guy in 2 hours...which he's only in about half the movie...so this guy in ONE HOUR overshadows Kelley's body of work as McCoy...?

Are you really standing by that statement? I find that out of line mister!

Not me. I thought the way Urban's McCoy parted his hair on the right was disrespectful of Kelley's McCoy who parted his hair on the left! I had a very hard time believing it was the same character.

I kid. Urban was awesome. Embodied the character perfectly in my opinion.

I was about to launch all my missiles and then...I saw you were joking..that was really good!!!

Wow, couldn't agree more with the entire thread. Karl Urban did indeed do a fantastic job portraying "Bones". He had a great entrance and every scene he did was great. I also loved how they worked in the reason for his "bones" nickname. I definitely think Urban played homage to the character by staying true to how the character was portayed by DeForrest Kelley. Great job indeed!

Great post Number one...I could easily have seen a younger Deforest playing him this way. McCoy, as Dee played him, certainly had elements of this new McCoy there..it just wasn't ever mined that well by TOS's writers. Urban took Dee's template and brought it into the 21st century big time...and both he and Pegg have made SCOTT/McCOY fun to watch and the comic foils. Loved them both...

Urban sold the movie for me. I was impressed until he showed up, and when he did, I just fell head over heels in love with it. I loved him!

I might be missing something here. Maybe it's cos I haven't read a whole lot of trek books or other media. All I know it TOS & their movies. Therefore McCoy is Kelly. He's the only actor to play McCoy before this so he is the only benchmark, the only frame of reference on screen. I agree Urban nailed McCoy, by playing the role as Kelly did and then building on that. I loved how obviously McCoy he was. "Are you out of your vulcan mind?"

Thank you and well well said!!!

Yes, Urban was excellent. Excellent. His performance stayed close to Kelley's, but was not a caricature.

I think Quinto was also excellent; his Spock was further from Nimoy but still somehow Spock (even though the script made him more emotional than I would have preferred). I'm looking forward to seeing more interaction between these two.

Urban did a fabulous job. Spot on, perfect. I hope we get even more of him in the sequel. And a bit of the Spock/McCoy jabs, please.

I had to meet CHRIS PINE earlier this year. He was vacationing in Lake Arrowehead and I recognized him. He was a very nice guy. I hope he does well..I think some of his facial gestures had SHATNER all over them with out seeming too hammy..

Urban definitely had some of the best lines in the movie - I wasn't so sure about him because I only knew him as Eomer in LotR, and while I liked him there, I still couldn't quite see him as McCoy... until now. Great choice - actually, I don't think they went wrong on any character.

Urban was an awesome choice. I really like him and think he did a great job. He really fit the McCoy character.

I think he was so good because he wasn't imitating Dee...where as, sometimes, I felt Zack was channeling nimoy. NOT that it was a bad thing, they all did great. But Urban really seemed like a totally new person playing the role HIS way...

Exactly. He didn't try to be the same, he did it his way and he did a great job. I think he was the most well done character. He stood out the most to me.

Agreed. But am I the only one that thought this new guy actually LOOKED and SOUNDED like a young McCoy? Even his facial expressions. I was thinking all through the movie that McCoy was the best casted part of all the characters. If someone told me this guy was actually related to DeForest I'd probably have believed them. He is my favorite character of the whole movie, just because he did a perfect portrayal of the original, but didn't look like he was imitating someone else.
