Anyway that slick little man who has apparently appointed himself King Of Cult (here in refered too as JJ or Him) has killed my show, he killed it dead.
Geez, I just wish people could avoid personal insults. You don't like the product? Fine. You think Abrams is a hack? Fine. But implying that he is less than a professional, with a evil intent on destroying the franchise is just incredibly obtuse.

1) NOKIA!!!!! Are you screwing with me? Product placement in a trek movie! In a world where captilist ideals have been rejected for mutual co-operation! WTF!!!!!!!

2) BUDWEISER!!!! See above :D
I don't like product placement either. I suppose it was a necessary evil. However, Star Trek's future never implied that brands cannot survive in Federation's economy.

3) Red Matter? Red Matter? using a theasaurus I can translate this too "red stuff." Don't even get me started on the inherint nonsense this lax crappy piece of writing painted all over this movie.
Yeah, it was a MacGuffin. Like the Genesis Device. It didn't detract from anyone appreciation of TWOK. However, if you really want to technobabble it, you can call it red-charged quark matter. :D

4) Vulcans bullying Spock? isn't bullying based on emtion? Fear of whats different, hatred of whats different. Instead of smashing his pointy eared little head in why didn't he just point out that there attempt too "elicit an emotional response" was a freaking "emotional response"
Funny as it is, it's as near canonical as it gets, since it is from Yesteryear in the animated series.

5) A Vulcan child using the word "whore" wow classy, intellectual puppets of the federation huh? What happened to galactic mutual co-operation et al?
Kids are arsehole. It's just a law a physics.

6) Why do the nacelles that generate a "warp field" to displace them into another layer of space where they can beat the old e=mc2 deal, have giant big glowy thrusters on the back, mm good for marshmellows and totally safe I swear.
The end of the nacelles lights up while charging for warp. No need for them to be thrusters or anything.

7) Kirk is God. Not even God gets promoted from Cadet to Captain of the flagship based on one mission he wasn't cleared to go on and in the middle of a freakin' cheating enquiry god damn it!
But what God need with a starship? Sorry cannot resist. :D
Yeah, it was rushed. I take narrative requirements over internal logic on this one.

9) Red stuff? Seriously your sh****ing me.
See above.

10) his reward for some 109 years of federation service is to be trapped in a parellel universe, and in the past at the beginning of his own career? What do you have against Spock?
You mean, he has now the opportunity of rebuilding Vulcan society, a great, challenging and fateful responsibility? I think it's not bad as swan's song for Spock.

J.J. NOTE THIS WELL.
11) Jesus what is that thing following Scotty? We don't do Ewoks
J.J. NOTE THIS WELL.
...we?

12) Surely an intellect like Spocks has come to terms with the theory that altering the timeline creates parallel universes, so why is he so into the idea immediately?
Surely you, as anybody else, have no idea how time travel actually works, so why are you pulling that out of your... hat?

16) Theres an Orion Female/most likely slave girl at starfleet academy. Yeah that seems hugely likely.
Why most likely? Don't you think there could be some free Orions? I always found it ridiculous that they all be slaves!

Nice try, but next time call it Cool Looking Space Stuff by J.J. you raving ego maniac.
Geez.

J.J. Abrahams Star Trek? i don't remember him dressing like a bike cop and pulling over execs to get them too even look at the script for "The Cage."

LONG MAY THE RODDENBERRY BE REMEMBERED!
"The" Roddenberry (as you call him), was a tv writer/producers, just like Abrams. I like his stuff, but the way you talk of him, he was Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.

I liked the product placement in the bar. I thought it made sense. Maybe it's because I'm a bartender, but I hate it in movies where people just order "a beer." My natural instinct is to ask, "What kind of beer would you like?"

I also like the idea of Uhura doing shots of Jack Daniels.

Loved the movie....and don't mind the timeline changes by Nero coming back and blowing up the Kelvin... however all my Star Trek stuff has disappeared and anyone I ask looks at me like I'm an idiot and doesn't know what I'm talking about...help.......sorry couldn't resist

Me, too! The moment this film was released all my TNG and DS9 action figures fizzled out of existence.

Damn You, J.J.!!!!!!!

I'm writing to J.J personally and ask him for cheque for the cost of all the DVD of Star Trek I've bought over the years, since they no longer exist I want my money back

Since all of TNG, DS9, VOY and related movies can be argued to be the result of an altered timeline; I fail to see what the beef is about another altered timeline.

I can see my little thoughts have stirred up some controversy.

Seriously though full thanks too IGUANA TONANTE for taking the time to eviscerate many of my well crafted points. I like it when someone takes the time to think about what you say. So in his honour here's my latest ramblings, in response to his naturally.

I'll try and handle it all in my stride and see what comes out of my.....hat

My point about the product placement issues were two fold. Your quite right in that the federation never ruled out Brand names. My issue with it is that in the entire history of star trek, TOS - Enterprise and every movie and animated adventure in between, never once has a character ordered anything that came from brand manufacturing. The very idea that an industrial replicator somewhere is stamping a company name (bearing in mind there is no fiscal economy on Earth by this point) on things is ridiculous. If there is no profit to be made who cares who made it? it wasn't manufactured it was most likely created from loose atoms at a replication facility! I beg you, what possible sane logical reason would there be to have a brand name on anything? (i'm coming to the what type of beer thing thats another matter.)

Secondly the issue is since when has trek ever needed outside finance? Did we need Nokia and Budweisers money to get this film made? or was it just another commercial decision that the current trustees didn't care about enough to fight? i don't think Roddenberry was christ on a pogo stick, but i swear I felt him revolve a little under the earth when that bloody ringtone went off.

The red matter thing I have explained and don't really feel anything other than "red stuff" needs to be said. Genesis Torpedo bad, but it was a torpedo that started a genesis what would you have called it?

You got me on the bullying, it's cannon. However i still feel the writing, acting and staging of it were about as far removed from what we know about the vulcan people as it was possible to get. Whores, fist fights and for a race of people that shun physical contact wasn't that meaty looking Vulcan teen just gleefull when he pushed little Spock.

The Nacelles according to most of what we have seen in the 40 years of this show are completely encased. What with them being filled with a super heated plasma that is very easy to ignite (Enterprise, TNG, Voyager) would you really want a big cool looking glowly bit as they were charging? I also have to state that they appeared to be thrusters, when the Kelvin sets her ramming course and speed, when Kirk Snr punches it we get a nice outside shot of them lighting up and pushing the ship on.

Narrative requirements over internal logic? Is the point of good writing to make them sync? Anyway you look at this it was a convenient rush to get to a sequel where they didn't need to jump a decade or have everyone conveniently meet up somehow.

Anyone who thinks a good swan song for a leading federation figure is to be dumped 129 years into the past, allowed to watch his people go from Pillars of his beloved federation to intergalactic homeless refugees, and left to use his considerable intellect to pick a planet and stick some buildings on it. Does it seem like his "first, best destiny" is Town Planner?

WE. Damn right, I feel pretty secure going out on a limb to say

STAR TREK FANS WANT NO EWOKS

What can i say, a jokes a joke, but I ain't laughing.

I admittedly know nothing about time travel, but Spock Jnr (Mr Quinto) explained Nero would have no knowledge of future events, because after he altered the past by destrying the Kelvin etc, we had entered a parallel universe. If Spock says so it must be true. The younger one understood and the older one never blinked at the thought of altering the timeline with galactic wide consequences (giving Scotty the equation, telling Kirk of his future) Two wrongs don't make no right so don't come back with Nero started it!

Didn't Enterprise teach us that the appearance of Orion females as slaves is infact a perception they wish to encourage as they are infact the ones that are in charge? (see Enterprise - Bound) The orions have never been known as anything other than Pirates, slave traders and thieves, now they get invited to the Academy because when you turn the lights on and the girl he is with is Green it must be Star Trek.

The Roddenberry is The Roddenberry. A drunk womaniser who believed in what he was selling. He saw the future differently than his contempories, he thought we might make it, whoever he was as a man that will always elevate him just a little too me.

I apologise for the hard reading, not so great with the quote interweaving, but whats a post without reply?

oo one last thing. I never said he tried or set out to kill it. It's not a personal attack. J.J. is, as i said, slick. Slick professionally and very media savvy, but he killed my show because he never loved it in the first place.

Moore and Eick seen the potential of Battlestar and blatantly had fondness and love for the original.

J.J. stuck his hand up her skirt and had a good rummage, out of lust not love.

Colourful metaphor no?

The very idea that an industrial replicator somewhere is stamping a company name (bearing in mind there is no fiscal economy on Earth by this point) on things is ridiculous. If there is no profit to be made who cares who made it? it wasn't manufactured it was most likely created from loose atoms at a replication facility! I beg you, what possible sane logical reason would there be to have a brand name on anything?

I hope not. One thing that I think has been proven is that Federation citizens like authentic, handcrafted things. I would think that pervasive replication would make such things even more popular, hence the Sisko family restaurant. No replicators there. How do we know that "Budwiser" is not just a hand-crafted Iowa microbrew?

The ringtone was funny, but I will grant you that the Nokia logo was jarring and out of place.

Red matter? A McGuffin is a McGuffin, but I agree that they could have found a better name for it than red matter.

You got me on the bullying, it's cannon. However i still feel the writing, acting and staging of it were about as far removed from what we know about the vulcan people
Are you kidding? Vulcans learn to control their emotions. The movie itself discussed that. They did so because their emotions were violent and dangerous. Canon has established this clearly. This control is learned. The young learn slowly. I would imagine that Vulcan youths often apply logic and a sharp mind to some pretty effective and devastating bullying.

The Nacelles according to most of what we have seen in the 40 years of this show are completely encased.
I have to agree with this one. One of the most forward-thinking aspects of TOS was that the warp engines were not rockets with fire coming out the back. This was pretty advanced for the time. I feel we have taken a great step backwards to glowy engines.

STAR TREK FANS WANT NO EWOKS
I didn't see any ewoks. I actually like ewoks.

At that point, there was nothing iherently immoral about changing the timeline. Nero wasn't evil because he changed the timeline, he was evil becasue he committed genocide.

ok i guess ill throw out some ideas...

first off if i read correctly kirk was born on earth? if thats right, then what makes you think that this just wasnt a different universe? in the begining of the film kirks mother was already in labor....what were they going to do warp 20 (not able too yet) to earth to have him? hmmm....so this may just be a alternate timeline i half agree that everything after this movie in a way dissapered but then again whoes to say that it wont all be corrected? this is just 1 movie all the actors and actresses did sign for more movies...though highly doubtfull they will tell the same old stories (weather you love them or not) again. it remains this is 2009 not 1966 or w/e i love star trek this give the oppertunity to start with something fresh and to widen the fan bases. take batman begins and the dark knight both movies are reboots and ive not heard one person be upset with the fact they are not part of the other 4 movies. or james bond great movies..

now with this movie it only really changes a few things for example like the first mission it doesnt mean the whole star trek world is changed. yes there will be changes but who knows what they are. and again this is only the first movie who knows maybe in the next one we will see other timelines other kirks or spocks and the timeline will be fixed.

or who knows maybe this is just a completly different timeline, theres no indication that this isnt the same timeline you love and grew up with. for all we know the next movie could like i said have 2 kirks from different time lines.

It is never stated anywhere on screen in any iteration of Trek that Kirk was BORN in Iowa (or anywhere else, for that matter). And, if it really bothers you that he wasn't in this timeline, consider that the attack could have triggered pre-mature labour (as stressful situations do all the time). So the attack causes his birth to occur earlier by days/weeks and adds to the changes wrought by Nero's presence.

Loved the movie....and don't mind the timeline changes by Nero coming back and blowing up the Kelvin... however all my Star Trek stuff has disappeared and anyone I ask looks at me like I'm an idiot and doesn't know what I'm talking about...help.......sorry couldn't resist

I want my money back or a cameo in the next film where I get to kiss Kirk. I'm not a complicated person, I'm going to make this really easy for him.

Poor JJ, honestly, the guy's doing his job (and a great one at that), and people accuse him of being little and appointing himself king of a cult? What's next? Waaah, damn JJ's glasses, they insult my fandom? Waahh, someone who wears this kind of shoes can't do a Trek film? I don't think he cares, anyway, but it's still uber ridiculous.

nuRidiculous, one might say.

i found this article this should surfice.

SPOILER WARNING!!! If you have not seen the new Star Trek film yet, please stop reading as the plot is extensively discussed. You have been warned!]
Now that we know how the new Star Trek film handles the continuity issues, what exactly does it all mean and what are the greater implications to not just the original series, but the greater Trek mythos as a whole? I freely admit I may be the only one who really cares, but the more I started thinking about what this new timeline meant, the more it spiralled out of control. So, I decided to take a stroll through established Star Trek history and was surprised at all the events, large and small, that are affected as a result of two actions on Nero’s part. It all starts in the time of Mark Twain.
Time May Change Me, But I Can’t Trace Time
Chronologically the crew of the Enterprise-D make the first appearance on Earth via time travel in 1893. Should the Next Generation crew never make this journey I speculate that Guinan would have eventually become aware of the Davidians insidious plans and found a way to defeat them (“Time’s Arrow, Part I” and “Time’s Arrow, Part II”). Next we turn to Kirk and crew’s visits to contemporary Earth. Their earliest visit is to 1930, as depicted in “The City on the Edge of Forever.” There is no issue here, for if the Enterprise were to never encounter the Guardian of Forever then a drugged McCoy will never use it to go back and prevent the death of Edith Keeler. Likewise, their next two appearances in the twentieth century, 1968 (“Tomorrow is Yesterday”) and 1969 (“Assignment: Earth”) can also not occur with no disruption to history. In the former the ship’s appearance began the very problems the crew eventually had to resolve while in the latter Gary Seven could have definitely completed his assignment without assistance (or hindrance, as the case may be) from the Starfleet personnel. The Original Series crew next appears in 1986, attempting to procure a humpback whale and return with it to the 23rd Century (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). We’ll look at the event that lead to this trip later, but should Kirk, Spock, McCoy et al never take a Klingon ship back to this time history will march on none the wiser. The extinction of humpback whales was reported as happening long before the Kelvin encountered Nero so two more of the animals are, sadly, unlikely to alter that. The next visit to the 20th Century was Voyager appearing in 1996 (“Future’s End, Part I” and “Future’s End, Part II”). That, and the Ferengi visit to 1947 (“Little Green Men”) both are events that have no significant impact on history should they not occur.
In 2024 a time lost Benjamin Sisko took the place of Gabriel Bell, an important historical figure. As Bell was arguably killed due to Sisko and Julian Bashir’s presence during that time, then history would actually continue its normal course should the alternate universe cause them not to journey to the past (“Past Tense, Part I” and “Past Tense, Part II”). While writing this article I realize that this new timeline may actually “fix” several situations where the various Trek characters have screwed up their own timeline forcing them to go to extreme lengths to insure that not only does their presence remain undocumented, but that events still unfold as they should. But I digress. Our next stop along the timeline is a very crucial event, 2063 and Zephrem Cochrane’s historical warp drive test. Borg incursion notwithstanding, it would seem that Picard and his officers played a crucial part in not only convincing Cochrane in making hist first flight, but in preparing the ship (Star Trek: First Contact). Would time arrange for another gentle nudge for Cochrane? Since Starfleet and the UFP still exist, we must assume that either Cochrane plucked up the courage himself or things self-corrected.
But Still The Days Seem The Same
There are three events that happen in the late 20th Century/early 21st Century that should still occur that could possibly have an impact later on. Voyager VI gets launched meaning V’Ger still returns in 2273 (Star Trek: The Motion Picture). Khan Noonien Singh and the crew of the sleeper ship Botany Bay escape Earth in 1996 to begin their 271 years of drifting in suspended animation (“Space Seed” and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). Lastly, Jackson Roykirk still launches the Nomad probe in 2002, setting it on its course to merge with the alien probe Tan Ru and eventually murder four billion beings in the Malurian System sixty-five years later (“The Changeling”). These are all events that occur prior to Nero’s altering of the timeline, so they all three should still happen. There is nothing preventing the first one and the third is dependent upon being noticed by someone, although four billion deaths would be a little hard to ignore and we must assume that Nomad/Tan Ru would not have stopped there. As for Khan and his followers, it all depends on whether or not Starbase 12, or a similar such station, is ever constructed in the sector where their ship was adrift. Technically they could just continue along, asleep and unnoticed, until the Botany Bay used up all its power.
The only series that is completely unaffected by this new timeline is Star Trek: Enterprise. It’s possible that the episodes “In A Mirror, Darkly” and “In A Mirror, Darkly, Part II” have been negated, however they both take place entirely in the Mirror Universe with no interaction with the main universe. The Temporal Cold War involved factions from the 28th-31st Centuries and featured fluidly changing possible futures, so I think it is reasonable to assume that it still occurred and affected events during the series as depicted. This includes the Enterprise’s trip to 1944 (“Storm Front” and “Storm Front, Part II”) and Archer and T’Pol’s visit to 2004 (“Carpenter Street”). Indeed, the only series other than the original, and obliquely The Next Generation, to get a direct reference is the prequel series with Scotty’s line about Admiral Archer’s favorite beagle. The Romulan War and the founding of the United Federation of Planets should still occur unimpeded as does the Horizon leaving the book Chicago Mobs of the Twenties behind on Sigma Iotia II (“A Piece of the Action”).
Just Gonna Have To Be A Different Man
This leads us to Nero’s arrival in the 23rd Century and he immediately changes things. The USS Kelvin is destroyed, killing George Kirk. This singular event significantly alters the life of James T. Kirk and seems to have other ramifications as well. Beginning with Kirk, it seems without his father’s influence he turned out to be a thrill-seeking, rebellious young man. It’s doubtful he was on the Tarsus IV colony to witness the massacre perpetrated by Governor Kodos (“The Conscience of the King”). Kirk now doesn’t enter Starfleet Academy until 2255, five years later than he originally did. This means he doesn’t get hazed by Finnegan (“Shore Leave”) and doesn’t meet Gary Mitchell (“Where No Man Has Gone Before”). It’s possible John Gill could still have been influential teacher to him (“Patterns of Force”), but Ben Finney would have already been assigned to the Republic, which Kirk would have never served aboard (“Court Martial”). Likewise, Kirk did not serve as tactical officer aboard the Farragut meaning that he never visits Neural and befriends Tyree in 2255 (“A Private Little War”), nor is he aboard the ship when it encounters the cloud creature at Tycho IV (if it ever does) (“Obsession”). The Axanar peace mission would have been conducted without the young cadet Kirk. Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise almost seven years earlier than in the original timeline. None of this rules out the possibility of Kirk meeting Carol Marcus, so David Marcus could still be born.
Curiously, the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 launches much later than it did in the original timeline. Robert April never commanded the ship and Christopher Pike served as her skipper for a lot less than the original eleven years. Pike, having likely distinguished himself elsewhere is now a fleet Admiral after captaining the Enterprise on its maiden voyage. Whether or not he will avoid his fateful encounter with delta radiation in a few years remains to be seen. The ship also seems to be more advanced technologically then it was originally. My speculation on that is after the Kelvin’s ill-fated encounter with a mysterious ship of clearly advanced design, Starfleet accelerated its research and development and made bolder advancements in starship design and equipment. Also, while events have changed in the lives of all Kirk’s crew to bring them together on the Enterprise much earlier than in the unaltered timeline, there isn’t enough known about their individual pasts to be able to say what’s different. That is, except for a certain Vulcan with a human mother.
Spock’s history up through his graduation from Starfleet Academy remains unchanged. He does not serve as Pike’s science officer for eleven years due to the late launch of Enterprise and Pike’s early promotion (“The Cage”, “The Menagerie, Part I” and “The Menagerie, Part II”). The major events for Spock in this new timeline are the destruction of Vulcan and the death of his mother. Interestingly, those two events result in some positive developments for the half-Vulcan/half-human. He and his father, Sarek, reconcile much sooner than the eighteen years it took originally (“Journey to Babel”). Perhaps even more importantly, Sarek’s blatant admission to having loved Amanda plus the tremendous emotion turmoil he was forced to come to terms with have apparently helped Spock reconcile his two sides fairly rapidly. The fact that Spock is willing to openly engage in a romantic relationship with Uhura is evidence of this. I think his conversation with his counterpart from the future only helped in further understanding how his emotional and logical halves could compliment each other. I think we’ll see a much more assured and less conflicted Spock going forward.
Pretty Soon Now You’re Gonna Get A Little Older
It is impossible to fully speculate how things play out for the characters of the original series going forward or for the generations to come, although it’s reasonable to assume that things will proceed in the general direction we’ve seen. However, the destruction of Vulcan raises a point worth speculating on. Considering that the UFP will become much more human-centric now it is easy to imagine that tensions with the Klingon Empire will continue for many, many years and possibly even heighten. This makes it unlikely that the Federation and the Empire will sign the sign the Khitomer Accords in 2293 (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). At the same time, consider all the work the future Spock has done towards re-unifying his people with their long-lost brethren, the Romulans (“Unification, Part I” and “Unification, Part II”). Considering there are only approximately 10,000 Vulcans remaining, unification with the Romulans would be one course of action to consider. It’s possible that unification would succeed and have a positive unfluence on the reclusive Empire to the effect that it could be the Romulans that end up signing a peace accord with the Federation instead of the Klingons. That could even mean a Romulan instead of Worf serves aboard Picard’s Enterprise-D, or whatever Enterprise model Jean-Luc commands. That or I’m just getting crazy with speculation.
You’ve Left Us Up To Our Necks In It
No matter what events transpire in future films sequels, television series and/or novels based in this new timeline I, for one, am excited by the possibilities. Anything can happen at this point and, while some it may seem familiar, the Star Trek universe is no longer the same. The great thing about this new alternate universe is that new stories can be told without being beholden to over forty years of continuity. At the same time, since this is an alternate timeline, all the adventures that we know and love so well have still and will still occur. Nothing invalidates them and they can be watched or read anytime. To be honest, I’ve felt that Star Trek as it was had shoe-horned as many stories into the original five year mission as it possibly could and, if tales would going to be told about Kirk and Co., something needed to be done to accommodate them. J. J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have come up with a most elegant solution. It is not a reboot, it is not a reimagining, but a bold new direction full of exciting possibilities. Star Trek is firmly in their capable hands and I can’t wait to see what they do with it next.

This is completely my take on the matter, but I have a theory which could explain how BOTH realities could exist at the same time....

It is reasonable to assume the black hole in the prime universe NEVER dissipates after Nero and Spock go through it (as seen in Countdown). When the black hole was formed it created a "gateway" from the present to the past. Logically, as long as the black hole remains intact then both realities will exist along side each other UNTIL the black hole dissipates. At that point, the prime universe would be "overwritten" with the new timeline seen in the movie. Since black holes are not known to just disappear, then you could reasonably assume the prime universe will exist forever and the black hole simply becomes a permanent portal to an alternate reality.

I don't know if this makes sense to any of you, but IMO it's the best explanation to give according to the theory that there is only one timeline. Something to think about...

eh idk about that. only cause i think this.

the black whole itself created a "time whole" to the same prime universe just a different time period. so it would be "logical" to assume that that black whole is now only a gate to both future and past times. everything else should change...

Remember that scene in Austin Powers 2? The one where Austin goes cross-eyed and Basil suggests the audience doesn't think about too much...

The way I see it is, star trek, while having its gems, was largely cumbersome and creatively restrictive to the extent that existing continuity would dictate the resolution to any given story. It had to, Starfleet could modulate its shields, create particles of gravitons and chronotons and energy fields of any magnitude using the deflector dish. It would take a threat of incredibly implausible proportions not to have its solution pre-programmed in a VBA macro, readily accessed by a keyboard short cut. Too many dramas had arisen because they'd forgotten a similar problem from three weeks back.

The solution to Treks survival was a change of scenery. They could have lept forward to a new era, the fall of the federation and a high tech dark age, or they could go back. They opted for a prequel but brought the same problems and stories with them. Trek died.

How could something as popular and lucrative as trek die? A combination of over exposure and creative fatigue perhaps, or maybe just too many reset buttons and hologram rubbish to give a shit about. Either way, for Trek to be good it needed to return to its iconic roots. Kirk and crew saving the galaxy on the USS Enterprise.

And thats what we got, but they did it without a total reset, a decision that will be debated to the ends of time itself, but it resulted in more TOS era stories in an unfated future. Anyone can die and canon is effected not one jot. The end of the story is a mystery, the crew can face peril and we can have some fun.

If any explanation of timelines and universes in required to help catalogue and whole thing in neatly tidied stackable boxes, just refer to the Spandex Excrucia Theorum which accounts mathamatically for this type of shit. It hasn't been postulated yet, but until it is, why not relax and enjoy some new trek.

Edited to add:
I know explaning away the errors and finding complex in-world explanations for creative choices is part of being a trekky and I'm not trying to be a kill joy. This stuff should be fun, and it is, but it also seems to raise blood pressures in some types. Just saying there is such a thing as over analysis.

See what a lifetime of trek does. It encourages preachyness. Cheers Gene ;-)

I'm stealing that for use in my class someday.:techman:
