Star Trek - $7.50 million on Monday

Re: Star Trek - $7.64 million on Monday

How much does a movie usually make on its first monday?

Depends on the movie, its opening numbers, what day of the week it was released, word-of-mouth, etc. Some comparables though (of reboots):

1st Mondays:
Batman Begins: $6,627,412 -57.7%
Superman: $12,988,054 -27.0% (Opened on Wednesday)
Casino Royale: $3,836,772 -64.1%
Iron Man (not a reboot but strong legs): $6,934,568 -73.4%

Unbelievably good news--probably drop a little day to day until Friday, but still. I was hoping 5's for M-Th, but this... wow. :)

Superman was a holiday (I think), Batman Begins was during the summer when the schools etc are out. Casino Royale is in November. The best comparison from those numbers is Iron Man because it opened a week before Trek did, but last year.

Batman also opened on a Wednesday.

Superman's first Monday was July 3rd, which means that it was a day a lot of people probably had off or at the very least, they didn't have to go to work the next day which freed them up to go to the movies on a weeknight.

Looking at Star Trek's Monday take, that is really, really impressive when you consider that there are no holidays, school is in, some colleges are still in exam mode and so forth...

Also, promoted by the same people so it's a darn good comparison. The only qualm I'd have with comparing the two is that Iron Man is too much of a comic book genre film.

I went again yesterday and had to see a later showing. It was sold out. On a Monday. ;)

great news made possible by the raving reviews and good worth of mouth. looks like this thing will have legs leading into labor day.

Re: Star Trek - $7.64 million on Monday

By the way, this could cross $100 on Wednesday, which would make it only the second Trek film ever to do so, unadjusted.

MvRojo, thanks for the many updates you always bring us. I always look for your posts on marketing topics.

Thanks. No problem. It's not like I have anything else to do. :p

This makes me happy. I was planning to go again today, but work forced me to postpone it. Ah, well. Great news.

The word of mouth on the film is fantastic. I also saw that the crowds during the weekend were larger and more enthusiastic than on opening day!

I may go see it a third time this coming weekend!

Just to be clear, this is just an estimate for the time being. Hopefully, the actual will come in about the same or higher.
