I must have gone into the wrong threads, then.
I came back from seeing the movie, and people were going all Bele and Lokai on each other. It was like the Red Hour in here.

The simple fact is this movie doesn't explain jack.
Also Starfleet wouldn't give the Enteprise to kirk after 3 years, a medel yes, but a star ship, that wouldn't have happened, he wasnt even an acadamey graduate yet, did Nog get a ship, or Crusher? Hell Kirk was the fast man to Captian already, captain @ 33 was young remember?
And the idea a super nova would destory a large part of the galaxy, no I don't buy it, if they said an Omega Molecule explosion I would have belived that little tale. Red matter wasn't explainined and looked like a large red ball from wal-mart, no thought even went into it.
The ship looks very close to a rejected design for the ship by Roddenberry himself, that i remember from the Matt Jeffieres arcticle in Star Trek the Magazine.
Spock is more illogical than kirk, and kirk acts like some 13yr old punk with no respect or moral code, and seems to only be self serving, if he didn't want revenge he probably wouldn't have done a damn thing.
Uhrua is a sick joke, we knew she liked spock but there was enough deceny and respect towards spock she didnt kiss him.
McCoy was in Star Fleet before Kirk joined.
Checkov would have been what 11 in 2258? considering in 2267 he was what 20 when he came aboard the enterprise.
Uhura would have been in a class after kirks as well.
Sulu as well was fairly freash if you remember Sulu wasn't the helmsman @ first to begin with, he was part of a psych team during the Gary Mitchell incident.
There are way to many flaws to continue the list, suffice to say, Id rather trek had only lived on as reruns and in the minds of trekies, than this bastardized creation.

I thought it was a decent movie...
Yeah, I have issues with that. I could see Spock getting promoted and made captain of the ship since he held the rank of Commander
