I am looking forward to some definitive word on the size of the new ship. As for all the shuttlecraft, it makes sense to me. You couldn't really have escape pods that have no warp capability... You'd be dead in the water. So you need enough shuttles with warp to evacuate an entire ship.

So can anyone who has read Countdown explain to me why Narada is so frigging big and has so many random spiky parts?

It's not only just a mining ship, but it has advanced BORG tech & Stealth systems.

What does a Mining ship need with all that? And the weaponry too

I think the new enterprise size is a complete cockup! i have just thought about it, and i can see 2 decks in the saucer rim, and judging by the size of the windows, its this big:

You can still fit that engineering into the secondary hull

Because the borg tech the romulan's had was experamentel, and thought it wiser just to let it assimalate a mining ship as the test-bed instead of the now scarce romulan war-birds.

New member here. You can tell that the new Enterprise is a helluva lot bigger than the original by comparing the saucers. Look how small the welders are compared to figures in the first picture.

So? The new Enterprise is entirely cgi. That being said, I'm sure both Enterprises represent the size that the films intended; ILM isn't one to make such a mistake. You can also see clear structural differences in terms of depth and width. Going by the size of the figures, there is only room for about two decks in the rim of the first picture, but you could fit many times that number in the second.

well... two things.... memory alpha has the size of the crew of this ship as 1100.... How dare they exceed 430.... hell... I dont care... i'd take a trek movie from any one of those 250,000 trek universes that worf found....

and the second thing that pic of yours... if that big hole in the top front of the ship is that transparent aluminum viewport....

it looks to be several floors from the top of the ship...
