Size Of The New Enterprise (large images)

I noticed that the new Enterprise looked a lot bigger when I saw the movie. When they did the shot of the shuttle bay, I thought it looked too big to be on the original sized Enterprise. Then I checked online to find some length figures and was shocked to see that they increased the size to somewhere between 762m and 914m. That's a huge increase in size. Not only did they double or triple the length, but you have to realize what that means in terms of overall volume (not only is it longer, it is taller and wider). If it is 762m, then by overall volume, it is approximately 18 times larger than the original Enterprise. If it is 914m, then by overall volume, it is approximately 31 times larger than the original Enterprise.

Here is a comparison chart I made up. It is to scale.

Nobody is certain of the exact size and there is some debate on the subject. However, it seems very likely that the size of this new ship is somewhere between 762m and 914m. Here is a thread over on startrekmovie.com on the subject.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. It just seemed like an odd thing to do. I guess being fans of Star Wars, they were trying to increase the "wow" factor by increasing the scale of the ship.

HOW DARE YOU LEAVE OFF THE NX-O1! *HURUMPH*;) And yes, as many of you on this forum know I always thought the original 1701 was too small! But now I think the NU-ENT is just WAYYY to BIG!

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I always thought it was around the size of the refit...maybe bigger.
Didn't ever once think it was bigger than the D or E.

Judging from the sizes of each ship's bridge I might say that the new enterprise is maybe twice as big as the original, but no more.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I guess that makes sense if you need to fit some 90 shuttlecraft and a beer brewery inside.

 I was about to say, but I was begining to wonder how big this ship was when I saw the shuttle bay could house 2 fllights of shuttle craft one on top of the other!

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I don't think it's any bigger. They just had to use models for the old ships in the 60s through 90s and now they are using computer technology to show the ship. So they look bigger to the audience. Doesn't mean it is any bigger.

That's not established. It's all based on an offhand remark by an effects person during an interview.

Or it could be about 300meters long and just looks bigger. It never said it's size on screen.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

If that is true, on its size, then the Narada must have been GIGANTIC! Like the size of a small moon.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

No wonder they were able to stuff it with what looked like two-dozen shuttlecraft.

Wondering what the height of the picture windows on the rim of the saucer of this model must be...

That's no moon. It's a ....

... mining ship.

:p
So can anyone who has read Countdown explain to me why Narada is so frigging big and has so many random spiky parts?

WELL.... If you continue the expoential increase of the enterprise's.... by the time you get to the time of the borg... the enterprise should be about the same size as their cube ships...

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Not only mining, but factory spaces aboard her, I'm guessing.

It's not only just a mining ship, but it has advanced BORG tech & Stealth systems.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I think it just looked bigger, and I don't think it matters that much as long as they keep it all in proportion. I never liked in DS9 how there were so many god damn ships.
