I don't see how anyone could miss him.

He assigns the cadets to ships and even has a few words with Kirk. He's not blink and miss.

Thats who people wanted as Scotty? I'm glad Pegg got it.

    Indeed.
He was ok in SG Atlantis, but nowhere near as good an actor to have him play Scotty.

I missed him in the film, and I just watched a whole bunch of SGA this month. I was too caught up in the movie, I guess.

He was wearing a hat, that kinda made it hard to spot him as the actor. He was the guy calling out ship assignments.

Pegg was good, I'm sure he'll hone his accent for the sequel... but Paul McGillion really seems to be a good actor, physically and verbally suitable for Scotty, and I wouldn't have been upset if he had landed the role.

Pegg got huge cheering in our 1000 seat screening, being from the UK, it must have helped sales.

Plus McGillion is nothing compared to Pegg, acting wise. Small point that.

He was nothing more than decent on SGA.

I disagree. I think that Pegg is definitely the better actor overall based on his past work (I especially loved Shaun of the Dead), but McGillion looked the part and his character from SG:A was already a copy of the original Scotty in a lot of ways; he'd have been the better fit.

It all chalks down to Simon Pegg is a pretty well known person in both the US and the UK for non Sci-Fi roles. Paul McGillion is known to a niche market in the US and UK for Stargate.

Fair enough, but it's not as if they were going with big-name stars to fill most of the roles. I mean, who'd ever heard of Chris Pine before now?

And to change the subject for a minute, what's this little guy supposed to be? :bolian: A Bolian?

I really liked Pegg and thought he did an excellent job, but he kinda reminded me of Pippin in the LOTR films. Just the sound of his voice and some of his mannerisms and attitudes.

I'm glad Pegg got the job, but to say McGillion wouldn't have done just as good a job is just...wrong. He could easily have done the role justice.

That, and the fact that Abrams had worked with him before and tends to want to work repeatedly with folks he likes.

That happened to me a lot too. I missed all of the cameos. I was too swept up in the whole thing.

That's probably what threw me

I think he'd have been great as Scotty, although Pegg wasn't as horrifically bad as i'd envisioned given his previous "comedy" crap :)

I made sure no one in my theatre missed McGillion. When he showed up, I actually yelled "It's Paul McGillion!"

He would have made a decent Scotty if they were actually doing the character the way he was in TOS. Given how Scotty is a completely re-imagined character, Simon Pegg is a better fit.
