see it as Erika affirming that Archer is still a worthwhile human being, even after all he'd done in the Expanse.

I agree with this, but I don't see Archer sleeping with Erika as a continued relationship or a commitment to a continued relationship. Booty call = one-time thing.

I do think the writers had him recover from his actions in season 3 way too soon and therefore cheated the audience from some possibly powerful and interesting development/reactions. For example, I think it would've been smart for the writers to have a character we know already and a friend prompt Archer to help him realize he's a decent human being.

They had been a couple until he was promoted to captain and she became off limits. They were finally able to resume their relationship because she was of equal rank. It's hardly just "booty call."

I agree, which is one of the many reasons I hated the stupid "cliffhanger" at the end of Zero Hour. This was one season that didn't need it, and could have gone straight to the scene we got at the end of Stormfront II, Enterprise being escorted home.

Season 4 could then have opened with a two or even three-episode arc dealing with consequences of the events in the Expanse.
-- Hoshi's post-traumatic stress;
-- Phlox's use of the lyssarian larva to clone Sim (a violation of the Lyssarian protocols) only to end up killing him. The Lyssarians learn of it and come looking for his head.
-- Archer's act of piracy in stealing the warp core (representatives of the species come looking for his head because the crew was killed when it couldn't outrun a pirate attack).
-- T'Pol's mainlining of trellium should have come out.
-- ASAIK, Trip never went to see his parents in The Expanse. Maybe we could have gotten a homecoming for him (I've always thought it was ridiculous that we know more about Travis' family than Tucker's).

I got the impression from the dialogue they broke up and it had been a while, and Erika hadn't exactly known the cause of the end of their relationship.

Where did we see their relationship (outside the books) continue? Even in the Klingon arc, they didn't indicate a relationship. Booty call was just a vulgar way of saying a one-time thing. Doesn't mean they're not friends or care about each other; I think they both very much care about each other and it's pretty clear they've been friends for a long time. Friends though doesn't mean a romantic relationship, even if they seek occasional physical comfort.

Mach5 are you talking about Daedalus? I think the character's name was Monica or Monique, but they do have a lot in common.

^ ERIKA: You know, there's something I'm still not clear about. Why did we break up?

ARCHER: I was your superior officer. It wasn't appropriate.

ERIKA: You're not my superior anymore.

While Erika has the most story history I had to vote for Riann because they had more chemistry on screen. To me it seemed like the Archer/Erika relationship came with directions "use only when needed for relief of pain".

And then he says? He kisses her and that's the end of that scene. I guess we're going to have to disagree. I didn't see a commitment to an ongoing relationship and figure they would've shown us in the Klingon arc, when we saw her again, if they intended to show they were going steady.

SFRabid, totally agree. I didn't think they had any chemistry either.

Yeah, I'd have to say I can't really see him making any kind of romantic commitment whilst he's still got his career.

Maybe after he steps down as President.

Trip

Out of the choices presented I'd go with Riann for pretty much the same reason's as JiNX-01 stated. Also would have liked to have seen more of Keyla from 2D2N.

^She was married, i don't think Archer would have gone there and didn't really get a romantic vibe from them anyway.

He and Erika Hernandez would have made a good couple. They had a lot in common and based on their interaction in "Home", I would say they already have a deep friendship and romantic feelings for one another.

I don't think their careers would be a problem either. Captains have to give a lot of their time to their crew and ship. A long distance relationship for both would be ideal IMO.
