If Star Trek Has A Disappointing Box Office...?

All indications are that 95% of "the base" are on board with this thing, so there's no justification for that worry.

I haven't seen evidence of this.

Then you should hang around TrekBBS and places like it more often and pay attention. Try keeping at least cursory track of posts, polls and the like. It's easy to say "I haven't seen evidence" if one doesn't look at what's in front of one.

More like those of us who don't like the direction of this movie have said our peace and moved on.

Whether this movie makes $1 or $1B, Trek, as we know it, is dead. There's not much left to say beyond that.

More like those of us who don't like the direction of this movie have said our peace [sic] and moved on.

Piece - "said our piece."

There have never been many of you who really don't like this film around this board to begin with - and most of you have not "moved on" from this forum, though a few have. Sorry, some of us do have memories.

Peoples reaction to this movie reminds me depressingly of the reaction to nuBattlestar:Galactica.
I haven't followed nuBSG very closely -- barely at all, in fact. Please elaborate, so that I may understand your inference.

Back when nuBattlestar:Galactica came out, I strongly voiced my dislike of it.

People did not agree with me. The liked the show. Said it was better than the original (of course).

But beyond that, there was a strong undercurrent in peoples tone of "you better hope nuBG is a success because if it fails, there won't be any future Battlestar:Galactica at all"

Some actually posted this (note this was years ago so the posts here are not available, nor I assume at the Battlestar:Galactica website).

In other words a tone of "support it or else"

I see this attitude regarding Star Trek. (not necessarily here).

"You better hope it succeeds because if it fails Star Trek is finished". Or something along those lines.

Another thing I see similar to nuBG.

Fans seemingly overjoyed that non science fiction reviewers and other experts are giving it favorable reviews.

There seems to be an attitude regarding both nuBG and Star Trek of

"THEY LIKE US!!! THEY REALLY LIKE US!!!!"

In other words, after being marginalized by the mainstream for so many years Trek fans, like nuBG fans are simply beside themselves that they finally have some acceptance from the viewing public at large.

Yes, oh no, people are actually liking Trek in great numbers. WHAT A DISASTER!

To me it is a disaster if it distorts the Trek franchise into being something that I do not want it to be.

Though I'll be honest, I have loathed every Star Trek movie since The Undiscovered Country. And even it had glaring problems.

Then it will be a disaster to you, which matters not a jot to most of us.

What is your point?

I assume you hope that movies or series are made that you would like to watch as well?

Or do you think to yourself

"I don't care if it is garbage. As long as it helps reinvigorate the franchise and has real mainstream popularity..."?

If you answer is the second, then I salute your selflessness and care for others.

His point being your opinions are in the large minority and, as such, this bodes well for Trek and its future life and success as a franchise.

Well the thing about NuBG is that you knew there was going to be an end.

And come on Old BG wasn't all that great, yeah it was a great family show for it's day but it was plagued with low ratings and a horrible follow up series Battlestar Galactic 1980 which BTW had and Android Cylon.

I really think the "Old School Trek fans" Really seem to forget what the hell it was they watched and we always see this "The Old was better mentality" when the old really wasn't all that great. A show that had 79 episodes and was originally a struggling tv show which had the fans of it writing letters to a network to keep it going.

I'm glad it found it's legs later, but please be realistic about how our little cult show got it's start. It wasn't an over night success. And that is the honest truth. Trek had to find it's place and there were just as many naysayers (Hell why do you think they lump a love a star trek in with all things nerdy).

Thanks.
