favorite CRIME DRAMA

I guess the only "crime drama" I currently watch is NCIS, even though I didn't really pay attention the first two seasons, since I gave up on CSI: NY and only watched Law & Order: CI for the Logan episodes.

I'm guessing the short-lived shows don't count?

NYPD Blue I stuck with for all 12 years, though I probably missed an episode here and there. I think that might be the only long-running crime drama I've watched from start to finish.

The Wire, Third Watch, and Hill Street Blues.

Best season: Brooklyn South, Season 4 of Hunter

Best PI: Rockford/Magnum

I tend to prefer British crime shows

THE BILL - the first 16 years or so were excellent. Around 2000 it started to go downhill, in 2002 I stopped watching it as it had turned into a really bad soap opera. People have told me that it has improve in the last few years but I am no longer interested. I have just been buying the older seasons to get my fix.

MIDSOMER MURDERS -Fantastic show and Tom Barnaby is a wonderful character. It is great to have policeman who is well adjusted, happily married and who gets on with most people.

DALZIEL and PASCOE - Andy Dalziel is the opposite of Tom Barnaby. Andy is gross, bad-tempered, ugly and yet for some reason he grows on you.

SILENT WITNESS _ I didn't like it all that much to start with because I couldn't stand Amanda Burton as Sam Ryan. However since she departed in 2004 I have really loved the show.

Other British shows I like to a lesser extent are Wire in the Blood, Trial and Retribution, Jonathon Creek, Taggart, Miss Marple and Agatha Chririe's Poirot.

My favourite American crime dramas are Dexter and CSI (but only the origimal series).

No one's mentioned The Closer... one of my favorite shows.

And of course there's Life on Mars (UK). Which at heart was still a crime drama with a few extra trappings of sci-fi-ish-ness.

I also like COLUMBO..forgot to mention that one. Another iconic character from the 60s-70s..

Rob

I liked the character Columbo very much but I disliked the fact that you knew who the murderer was early in each episode.

I didn't. The fun was watching Columbo befriend the bad guy, and then getting them at the end. Nimoy's guest stint is one of my favorites...SPOCK vs COLUMBO..gotta love it!!!

I'm not a huge fan of crime dramas. But I do enjoy the occasional episode

No one's mentioned The Closer... one of my favorite shows.

This might actually be my favorite. I haven't seen that many episodes so far (seasons one and two, I should think), but I just love Johnson and her team. I love the way they manage to mix the serious stuff with humorous moments. I also like the fact that Johnson is brilliant at her work but also has her share of problems in other ways .

Other crime dramas I enjoy:

- CSI Las Vegas
- basically all the L&Os (at the very least, they always seem to offer a basic level of entertainment) but CI and London are probably my favorites of those
- NCIS (didn't get the humour first but really enjoy it now)

And here's some more that (surprise! :D) haven't been mentioned yet:

- Tatort
- Schimanski
- Derrick (not really a show I like all that much, but there's actually the remote chance some people here will actually know of it :D)

I haven't seen Homicide, The Wire or the The Shield, so I can't comment on those.

Does the Sopranos count? I guess that's more of a mob drama.

I've never actually sat down and watched the Wire but I plan to someday.

I like CSI and Law and Order but have only seen perhaps a dozen episodes of each, I don't feel qualified to make a distinction between the two.

I can't say enough good things about Law and Order. It' been my favorite show for a long time, and the cast right now is top notch! I also watch L&O:CI and SVU, but the mothership is the best. It's on tonight, so watch :)

Oh, and if Dexter counts, that's another favorite of mine. :techman:

Never been a big crime drama fan, but in recent year I've really gotten hooked on L&O (mostly Original, and SVU), NCIS, and The Closer.

Law & Order. I absolutely love that show. Not so much the 1st 4 seasons with Ben Stone. But I'm a huge fan of Jack McCoy and I find Michael Cutter to be an acceptable substitute.

Now see, I on the other hand actually prefer the old Ben Stone episodes. I like his more calm and thoughtful approach. Currently working my way through season 2.

It used to be between CSI and NCIS, but CSI has lost its edge over the years and I simply don't have time to catch NCIS anymore.

I miss the Lenny Brisco character

CSI
CSI: New York
Wise Guy
NYPD Blue
The Rockford Files (Now That was A cool show)
Police Story
L & O SVU
L & O Criminal Intent
Hawaii 5-O
The FBI (Yeah I'm Old)
Streets Of Sanfrancisco
That all that come to mind for now...
