Best DC-based movie: Superman - The Movie (1978): Captures the silver-age better than any other movie I've seen. And Christopher Reeve was born to play Superman. He not only captures the essence of playing Superman, but also Clark Kent and manages to convey the fact that they are two separate people as much as they ar ethe same person.

Best Marvel-based movie: Iron Man (2008): As much as Reeve was the perfect choice to play Superman, Robert Downey Jr. is pretty much the best choice to play Tony Stark/Iron Man. Throw in a great script that had a pretty good balance between telling the origin for folks who might not be that familar with the character and a lot of really good moments for uber-fans to smile and nod over. Bring on the sequel!

Which of these is the best? Gotta go with Superman. While it's effects are showing their age, this movie is still a good movie. I pull it off the shelf periodically and pop it into the DVD player just to enjoy it again and again. It's fun, it respects it's subject matter, and it just works.

We already have a few on this subject, posted recently. So this one will be closed as opposed to being merged.

Rob: you've been pretty enthusiastic in thread starting of late, just since the beginning of May. Try letting some of them breathe and devote more attention to them for awhile before creating some new threads.
