Trek Coverstory in "Newsweek"

Don't know if its been reported on the site already, but the Enterprise is on the cover of Newsweek, with the story "How Star Trek taught us to think big". Say what you will about Abrams' movie, it has at least made Trek relevant again, for now anyway.

I don't see the point. Different forum, slightly different focus. As long as we're just talking about trek being relevant again and not plot details of the movie, this thread is fine.

The magazine in my small town newspaper had a Trek cover story last week. I just went to Wal-Mart to pick up a birthday cake and they had a Star Trek cake in the display case. My 8 year old nephew is getting confused. His dad introduced him to Star Wars but now Star Trek is getting all the attention. Before this he did not know Star Trek existed. That makes me think that ST needs a new animated series to draw in young fans the way Star Wars Clone Wars is doing for SW.

^That's not a bad idea, especially with the young actors taking over. A well done animated show could really put a lot of juice back into the tv franchise.

I rampantly and aggressively agree that there should be either a new animated series, or remake the original with better graphics and animation. 8I

Also I keep reading the thread title as "Trek Controversy" lol

I'm for it!:techman: just as long as it's in it's OWN continuaty!

Animated is more popular than ever and that would counter the high cost of CG. We could see more aliens that don't have to be played by humans.

I flipped through the articles... they looked pretty dull for us in-the-know Trekkers.
