Positive review from MSNBC

Not a lot of credibility here-even though he likes Trek, he doesn't really know the storyline of Terminator (Christian Bale isn't REALLY taking the Schwartzenegger role is he?) and he thinks that all movies are now franchises. If you scan trailers for upcoming movies there are plenty which AREN'T franchises, just a few that are. It's still not the norm. Most films are still stand alone stories.

My 2 cents anyway.

^ Still, we are talking about MSNBC here. Most of whom's viewers are hardly scifi aficionados.

My feeling? All good reviews are a plus. Even if its a review done by one of the uneducated masses.

No, no he is not, he's playing John Conner.

Wow, is this the pedantry in overdrive thread?

Yeah, he's taking over Arnie's role as the star of the Terminator franchise.

All movies are franchises? So Valkyrie 2, Knowing 2 and Apollo 13 II are a go?

Were those the best examples you could come up with?

They were obviously referring to this summer movie season as an indicator of the trend.

O'Neill (who, in fairness, often talks out of his ass) did say Bale takes over FOR Schwarzenegger, not that he's taking his role. Besides, what matters more is that of all the films they talk about in this interview, Star Trek comes off the best. O'Neill calls it "superb", while Wolverine is merely "good" and Terminator "should've been left alone." Now if you were an average moviegoer, which of these films just got the biggest buzz boost for you?

Exactly. Up until now, Schwarzenegger has been the star power who opens the Terminator movies, now - thanks to Batman - it's Bale.

When Pike goads Kirk with the line, “Your father was captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives, including yours. I dare you to do better,” I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up in a way usually reserved for well-written, powerful dramas and not mass-market genre movies.

I like this review. It's exciting!
