You F---ing a--hole

I remember thinking the "damn" in Transformers The Movie was random and out of place.

How about the "Oh shit! What're we gonna do now?"?
I own that movie and have never heard that uttered. At what point in the movie does that take place?

That might've only been in the version shown in the theater (unless it's on the new SE of the DVD). Spike says it right before Unicron eats them.

Hmmm. I saw it in the theater (I was 17) and you might be correct.

This page tells you all the differences in different versions.

I am in the UK, so I have one of the UK DVDs with the line intact. It also has the scrolling text and the message about Optimus Prime at the end.

What's the message about Optimus Prime?

Swearing is much appreciated for appropriately dire, life and death situations where more extreme language is almost required. For instance action or horror flicks and shows.

Exactly. True story: when I first started writing the UNDERWORLD books I automatically toned down the language just out of habit. (Years of writing STAR TREK and comic book adaptations will do that.) But the movie people called me on it and I immediately saw their point: when someone is about to torn apart by werewolves, they're likely to use some pretty strong language! So I upped the profanity level to make it more realistic.

I still keep the dialogue PG-rated for STAR TREK or SUPERMAN, however. It all depends on the context.

I remember Aliens 3 overdoing it with f-bombs in the theater. :shifty:

Right. Like it would have been remotely believable to depict violent prisoners saying heck and darn rather than swearing properly.

I think Spike's dad says it when they are trying to escape from Unicron - it may have been removed from the DVD of the film.

For all Alien 3's faults, hardened prisoners using swear words in a liberal manner wasn't one of them.

Besides, doesn't anyone remember Hudson? "Die, motherfuckers! Die, motherfuckers! Come on, you too! Oh, you want some of this? FUCK YOU! FUCK YOOOOOOUUUU!" He was swearing all the way through, but because he was the comic relief nobody minded.

ALIENS would have sucked with out Hudson doing those lines...I think his being there makes the movie identifiable to regular people, like me, who would cussing all the way...

The line is in some versions but not others. For instance it's not in my VHS copy of the movie but it is in my DVD copy.

Can I just chuck in a mention of Charlie Brooker's Newswipe and Screenwipe? You could do them without him saying things like 'By 2005, reality had sodded off' but it really wouldn't be the same. And the use of artful bleeping (for the f- and c- words) on that show is, well, almost an art form in itself.

The bleeping is part of the joke, of course, since Charlie will self-censor himself one minute, and the next announce, "And now it's time for The Week In Bullshit" with the word "Bullshit" filling the screen on a flashing background. I guess he works on the principle of "Is a bleep funnier here than an actual obscenity? Then [bleep]ing bleep the fucking thing."

Actually, Hudson was very believable. A Marine, in combat like that, is going to let loose with both his gun and his mouth.

Many people say that they hate RATED R movies because of the cuss words coming out of the mouths of the characters.

Who? Maybe we just see things from our own worlds but I think they must be in the minority.

Maybe its a parenting thing. I cant tell you how many parents I meet who complain about the use of these words, even in PG13 movies..heck..even PG. I rented ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING, and old movie from the 80s and was shocked to hell when the F word was dropped....

Rob

Everything back in the 80s seemed to get an R rating and it did not have a detrimental affect on the box office.

I'm going against the grain here - I am sick to death of damned watered-down PG rated films. And any horror film rated PG - I don't pay to see. I am an adult. I want adult films for adults. And parents - if you are the ones complaining about the language -get a babysitter and quit taking your kids to see these films. Get parental locks on certain channels. Take responsibility.

I recall when people got upset at the language in 'Saving Private Ryan'. Well some people need to catch a clue - soldiers talk that way. This is why in the original example that the marine characters in 'Aliens' talked the way they did.
