Review of all the "RAVE REVIEWS"

So I was innocently reading AM New York yesterday on the way home which is one of the free dailys that they give away in NYC and I'm readin and readin and I turn the page and there is an article about the "Rave reviews for the new "Trek". <-------that's the title of the article...

They said a bunch of stuff y'all have heard already but they said that STAR TREK is now considered a movie event much the same as Dark Knight and sex and the city (i didn't see sex (lol) but was it really good? ...I thought no...) but these two films were so highly anticipated that reviews rolled in days before the release date...similiar to what is occuring with STAR TREK. Competing studios have already ceded May 8th to Paramount and the only other thing being released that weekend is "next day air" which is a comedy featuring Donald Faison -- whoever that is...

So sorry if you heard this all already but I was really really surprised to see a review of all the reviews in the paper...especially when it's still two weeks away!

Actually, with the staggering number of them out there (and more turning up, all the time  ) a review of all the reviews sounds like something I could use -- maybe with a handy chart or graph for the all-at-once review overview?

Yeah! We could call it "rotten apples" or tomatoes or something. ;)

Seriously though, why is it taking RT so long? There could be another 40 or so positive reviews up there by now!

Because it's a consipiracy! A consipiracy I tell you...they're all against us....you know who....THEM! :shifty:

Not all of the reviews may be by their "hand-picked" reviewers. It's weird that the Hollywood Reporter and Variety (part of their "Cream of the Crop") aren't up yet, that's for sure.

The RT webmaster is probably a bitter fanboy that refuses to cave in and award it a Certified Fresh. ;)

I hate to admit it, but I was expecting 'that kind' of thread when I came in here... a 'scathing' review of all the positive reviews. I am pleasantly surprised! :bolian:

Sure sure... we know that you are in on it, comrade.

Not me... I was busy waterboarding... er... wakeboarding at the time... :guffaw:

Aha! I knew you'd slip up eventually! Guards! Seize him! :D

But in all seriousness... I do think the buzz is interesting. And I do wonder about the long-term effects if the movie is just CRAZY successful, critically or (especially) financially. Simply because it's pretty safe to assume that - weather old-school Trek fans are on board or not - if it's commercially successful, more of it will be made. Weather that's a follow-up movie or a series I don't know, but if the movie is a runaway hit, you can be sure it won't be the last we will see of this new vision of Trek.

I still maintain my skepticism about the movie (although I will note, just for curiosity and record-keeping, that I'm not a TOS die hard by any means), and I STILL wish they had just gone with a full, complete disconnect, nuBSG style reboot (don't try to incorporate time travel and parallel universes, don't make this big deal about not "erasing" the TOS thru Nemesis timeline - which I don't want to see happen either - just don't connect this new movie to the existing Trek legacy in ANY way, just say "Same concept, new story, zero connections in-universe to what came before")... but I'm absolutely going to be sitting in a theater when this thing is out.

I won't be watching Star Trek, but I will be in a theater.

Nah, just kidding. :p

I;m sure the reason RT is taking so long is because they have to carefully sift through all the reviews to make sure they censor out all the negative ones.

:p

The long term effect?

Let me tell you. JJ Abrams will be able to use this cast to remake Cloverfield.

Then, before XII comes out, he'll use this same cast of certified stars to remake WATCHMEN.

With Chris Pine as Dr. Manhattan, of course. :rommie:
