Sadly Ian Holm Officially States He is NOT Playing Bilbo Again

Perhaps Michael Sheen would fit the bill-bo.

I could definitely see him playing a Hobbit - good idea.

After playing Kenneth Williams, David Frost, Brian Clough, and Tony Blair, I don't think it would be too much of a stretch for him to take on the furry footed one. Facially, he's not that dissimilar to Ian Holm.

I was thinking about that last part. He definitely could pull it off if he wanted to.

^ Me too. When you see him as himself, he looks very Hobbitish. Curly hair, quite long, pointy features, cherubish face. Not to mention the fact that he's a brilliant actor. In fact, I'd have to say he's easily the best suggestion out there.

The only possible snag is that having done Underworld and the next Twilight movie, he might be getting fed up of genre movies. Then again, he doesn't seem to tire of things he's good at, to judge by his many portrayals of real people.

He is a good suggestion. Hopefully he'll be near the top of PJ and Guillermo's list, though PJ didn't let us down with the LOTR casting, so I'm confident they'll come through again here.

I didn't realize he was going to play Aro. Damn, now I will have to see New Moon.

Here's a thought. How about letting TPTB cast based on who fits the role of Bilbo rather than being concerned about creating geek hardons. Can you imagine the mess the LOTR movies would have been if the nerd herd was allowed to make casting decisions?

Here's another thought - how about letting people discuss something they find interesting and have reasonably well informed opinions on?

If they get someone who does a good job i'll be happy. As long as they don't do a special addition with lotr and digitally replace holms with the new actor, even for the finding of the ring scene.

I'd actually be ok with it JUST for the finding of the ring scene - its not like changing that ruins anything Holm did.

By that rationale, all threads about wishful casting or even directing should be deleted. It's a bit of speculation and swapping of opinions. If you're not interested, you don't have to click on the thread. Just another thought.
