Martha Jones for me!

1/ Donna
2/ S1 Rose
3/ Martha
4/ S2 Rose

Seriously though there's a lot of clear sky between Donna and Rose at her best and MArtha...

I picked Martha because I found her more likable than Rose. She seemed to complement the Doctor well. I didn't find the unrequited love angle as annoying as some... I thought it was a perfectly fine way to show their relationship as much different to Rose's. (In the same vein, Donna's flat-out saying in "Patners in Crime" that she's not even remotely interested in the Doctor that way was also a good move. I'll be more likely to be irritated when a future companion has the "same" sort of relationship to the Doctor as a previous companion.)

Donna grew on me as series 4 went on but she's just a notch below Martha in my book. A close second though.

Oh, and while I liked Rose perfectly fine in her two series, I didn't like her guest spots in Series 4 at all. "Doomsday" was the perfect way to end her story.

Donna with Rose a close second.

I didn't mind Martha, but I think it was a bit unfair for her to be the shoulder to cry on for Rose. She did show promise in season 4 though.

I liked all three, but it would have been nice for Donna not to have been crying in almost every episode.

I found Martha to be extremely pretty. One minor change to her hair completely revamped her dynamics

Donna at the top for me. I loved her chemistry with The Doctor.

Martha was great and she's my second favorite. I'm not much of a fan of Rose, although she was better in S1 than S2.

A certain Mr. Deus Ex Machina.

I have this sudden, awesome image of the Doctor taking a trip to ancient Greece and, though a series of wacky adventures, having to fill in for an ill actor. Then he gets lowered to the stage by ropes and sorts out everybody's problems.

What would that be, a doctoris ex machina?

I voted Rose. At first I didn't like her because she looked so young (even a little pimply), with a very popular kind of beauty (Today, especially in the UK, I notice it always has to be BIG eyes, big mouth, big shiny teeth...), but looks set aside, the character grew on me. I liked the S1 finale, the bad wolf thing, how empowered she was... and how much she mattered to the Doctor. Call me a romantic.

Now I don't follow my own principles because when I first saw Donna as a companion, I thought, what happened to young and pretty? Set a trend, and whatever we think about it, we adopt it. We don't like change.

I reserve my definite opinion of Donna until I see her in better conditions and with her original voice, like I did most of Rose.

I like Martha very much, but yeah, count me among those bothered by the unrequited love pattern. It's a shame how the Doctor neglected her at times. At least she had the pride to decide to leave. Sad that she was going away, but admirable.

Another Donna vote here. Shes the one I think I can most relate to. She had this great sense of wonder, but still was never one to take any crap from anyone.

Rose and Ecleston were great together. But the change in dynamics and the whole romance angle just started to wear a bit then when Tennant came on the scene. She became more annoying than likeable.

And Martha, I like. But she jut doesn't seem to register with me as an interesting person for some reason. Don't ask, I really can't put my finger on just why.

Rose just so so barely edged out Donna for me. It was a tight race. Both of them are pretty much perfect companions. Rose wins because I've lusted after Billie Piper since I was fifteen years old. Catherine Tate... not so much.

I really like Martha when she's good ("Smith and Jones", "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood", "The Sound of Drums"/"Last of the Time Lords", "Reset"), but she's really had some stories that didn't serve her well.

^^ That reminds me of one of the reasons that Martha is the number one for me. She single handedly saved the entire world from the Master when the Doctor was completely defeated. She spent an entire year walking the earth and creating the resistance and spreading the good world. Very inspiring. Meanwhile Rose gets to be Dark Phoenix but the power is just handed to her it's a little deus ex machina.
