Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews)

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

If I deride criticism from Trek fans, then I should deride praise from Trek fans as well. Seems only logical.
Not really.

If you, personally, at your place of work do your job in a quality manner, and your boss and your peers praise you for it, then that is an acknowledgement and a confirmation that you in fact succeeded in what you set out to do. You would be justified to accept that praise.

If you do a quality job at work, but your boss and some of your peers don't recognize that quality job you did and only seek to criticize you, then you would be justified to deride that criticism.

I'm perfectly fine with what Quinto said.

The man already knows that the old saying 'you can't please all the people, all the time' needs to be amplified by 10 when you are talking about Star Trek fans.

It's good that he's making it clear right from the start that he's not going go try to please every single nerd in Nerdville....and that all he can do his stay true to his own version of his best.

Exactly, we've got some of the bitchiest, nitpickinest folks with an overly developed sense of entitlement around.

Having read the Ign.com review of the movie (which states that the Kirk/Spock relationship is the heart of the film and its best point), I'm glad this guy's standing up for his own portrayal. Every actor has to at least try to make a role his own. Yes, there are inevitable comparisons to previous actors with a well known role, James Bond is a great example, as are the numerous actors who have played Ebenezer Scrooge in all the incarnations of the Christmans Carol.

My problem with this movie is no fault of the production crew or the actors. I so closely associate the original cast with these roles that unfortunately I'm going to spend the first viewing of this film comparing (fairly or unfairly) to what came before. I simply won't be able to judge it on its own merits. That's my problem, not the film's. For me, this will probably be similar to my initial reaction to Lord of The Rings (first movie). I had a set preconception of what the characters and sequences should look like. It was only on the second viewing that I realized how truly remarkable Jackson's achievement was. I'm expecting a similar response here when I go see the movie.

That's kind of like saying if I deride tyranny and oppression I shall also deride democracy and freedom.

Not Logical. :vulcan:

You sir, are THAT close to replacing my beloved sig line... In fact, I may just add it as an additional.

Bravo. :techman:

Looks like everyone can't live without criticising at least a bit (a teeny-weeny little DAMN BIT) of new movie, before seeing (or not) it.

Ahh, forget it, I feel like an old hag already ...

Quinto's an artist - any decent actor should consider themselves an artist - so of course he has to defend his artistic interpretation. If he didn't, I would wonder why the guy is such a doormat.

Yes really. Anyway, my statement wasn't directed at Quinto.

No, that's just hyperbole.

Exactly.

I have no problem with his statement.

He is an actor portraying a part, he should be proud as much as we are with his performance.

His performance along with Urbans are supposed to be highlight of the movie. If he doesnt care then its not the end of the world, doesnt make his performance any less than it is, a performance is a performance, hes an actor.

If actors started caring what the fans think, then they might aswel got into a dessert somewhere and shoot themselves. He has every right to care or not to care.

It doesn't matter to whom your statement was directed.

If someone -- anyone -- does something that is worthy of praise, then they have the right to accept that praise. However, if someone does something worthy of praise, but are instead criticized, then they are correct in deriding that criticism.

Not all criticism is legitimate. Granted, not all praise is legitimate either, but in my example the person being praised was being done so legimately. Criticism and praise may be "a person's opinions", but some opinions can be wrong.
