Favorite NuWho Companion?

I just finished re-watching Season Three, and that is definitely my favorite season of the new show. So many great episodes. In fact I would only list "Shakespeare Code" and "Lazarus Project" as anything less than great. And the ending with the Master... great stuff.

Anyway I was thinking about the Companions, and I think Martha has to float up to the top of the pile for me. I always found Rose to be vaguely annoying and pretentious, and I found Donna a little abrasive and annoying. So my vote would have to be for Martha. I only wish that she wasn't pining for the Doctor (been there) and that she had more medical expertise to use. I dunno, she's just more fun than the others.

BTW, I'm omitting sometimes companions like Captain Jack in interests of getting the primary supporting characters. I love Jack and all but he only ever appeared in what 3 stories in a row? Mickey had more appearances than he did

I have a hard time chosing between Rose and Donna. I love Rose in season one, and I just adore Donna full stop. I know that Martha is my least favourite by some considerable distance. I need to give it a little more thought.

It would have been Rose, but Donna came along. Although I am not a fan of Catherine Tate's comedy stuff, she was just marvellous as Donna.

Donna is the only companion I liked, so this was a pretty easy choice. Rose had a few good moments in season one, but that's it. Martha was just useless.

Rose was great at the time - it's the obsession with her after the fact that I hate. Martha was even better when she showed up in season 3, but her return appearances in season 4 and Torchwood were less good. Donna was merely "less crap than I thought" in TRB, but fucking fabulous in season 4 (DoctorDonna technobabble excepted). Captain Jack I see more as the Torchwood lead than a DW companion.

So, hard to tell... They've all been great revelations, they've all had minor disappointing elements. So I shall do what magazine survey readerships do and vote for the most recent - Donna.

But only cos Wilf hasn't travelled in the TARDIS and therefore doesn't count as a companion.

ETA- There's an all equally option that nobody's chosen yet? That, then.

Jack! Although one could consider him to be a Partner in Crime rather then a companion.

Well, if I can't choose him I'd go with Rose. The episode where she tries to get Queen Victoria to say "We are not amused!" the whole time is when I decided I really loved her.

I have to go with Martha. Of all the Companions, she's the one I want more of. I just loved her excitement at all the things she experienced in her travels, and Freema played her really well. The pining-for-the-Doctor motif got weary towards the end and cast a bit of a negative light on the character, but other than that I loved her...and her "fitted" clothes.

Donna, which is ironic considering I hated in "The Runaway Bride" and I was pissed she was going to be the series 4 companion. Goes to show I have an open mind.

So why didn't you include Mickey? I far prefer him over both Rose and Martha.

Oh, include me amongst those who want Wilf as The Eleventh Doctor companion.

In general. I found my appreciation of the companions decreasing with each season. So Rose is top, especially in S1, with Martha second and Donna last.

Not that any of them were bad--they're all great in their own ways--but some were greater than others.

Martha because she's pretty.

Donna due to her changes in character and more of a straight platonic relationship that could have gone somewhere.
