Need help with mac 'pages'!

Hi Guys - can any of you help me pretty please?

A colleague of mine has just acquired a mac laptop - nice shiney thing. Trouble is, she's not very competent at using it yet - added to which she tends to not answer phone calls/emails most of the time.

She kindly emailed me a vital document I need for an essay. Except she had created it using something called 'pages'.

So I have something in my inbox called 'file.pages' - which windows has no idea what to do with. I tried renaming it .doc - office insisted in installing some new software - and still can't actually read it. I've emailed the friend and asked her to save it as rtf or html, or just copy/paste the bloomin' thing into an email - but it could be ages before she gets around to that, and i want to send this essay in!

Soooo.. does anyone know how to open a .pages document using a pc? I can offer XP with office 2000 or vista with office 2007 or XP with open office (yeah - I know, one house, one car, one occupant: three bloody computers. I'm a geek, so sue me)

I need help with this. preferably yesterday.

Heeeelllpppp!

Hmmm, that's an iWork Pages document package (looks like one file, but is actually a package of multiple files). I'm afraid you'll need iWork to convert it to a Word readable file.

Maybe you could send the file to someone else with a Mac and iWork, who could then convert it to rtf, pdf or doc for you? (I would, but I don't have iWork installed anymore..)

I hadn't thought of that - but I think it would have to be a last resort. I don't know of anyone close who has a mac, and the document contains some fairly personal stuff. It's a psychometric test I had done - not something I'd want to share around the internets!

Thanks for the suggestion though!

One thing you could do, is go to a shop, which has Macs on display and lets you use them without getting interrupted by salespeople.

Then make sure it has iWork (Pages) on it.

It's this icon in the dock (mostly situated on the bottom of the screen):

You take your file on a flash drive with you and then open that file in Pages, and save it as a Word document.

I did something similar, as I copied some files from my HDD to a USB stick to have them printed, and the printer couldn't read from an HDD.

I hope that helps somehow.
